Same here Fleecy. 1 day a week starting next week. DS2 miffed that his friends are all going in on different days, but he is v keen to get back into 'real' schooling again. Part of the issue for him is that he works best when under the cosh a bit and the school have been so nicey, nicey about everything that he has just done the absolute minimum. He has at least had social contact, both online via PS4 for the last couple of months and F2F in the last week or so in the garden with SD of a sort ;-)

DD2 has L'boro down as second choice Meg, but has already decided she'll defer anyway as she wants to do 'resits' in Oct/Nov once they can be arsed to let us know when they are and then have a year out working and travelling. She's not bothered by 'blended' learning, but wants to be able to enjoy the whole student experience.

Yeah ds2 has had plenty of online contact (mostly with ds1’s friends actually) and spent a LOT of time hanging out with his brother so he hasn’t missed his friends. Ds1 is off to uni though in October, so ds2 needs to reconnect with his peers really. He was pretty sociable this time last year, going to McDonalds and hanging out in the park and camping with friends. He likes school well enough and likes to please his teachers but online learning just bores him I think. He’s learnt fucktons from YouTube though :)

Daughter 2 can’t really defer as it’s an art foundation and there’s no fees if she starts before she’s 19. I doubt they’ll extend that if courses are still offered.

At least she’ll get another full freshers week the year after!

Discussion with a secondary Head Teacher friend yesterday. There won't be any summer schools, despite what Boris says. HT's and SLT's are knackered from having to deal with constant DfE changes, need a break and will be planning for September (although no one knows what that will look like) There's no £ for it and retired/furloughed temp/volunteer staff would raise all sorts of safeguarding issues. Ain't going to happen.

Equally 'resits' in Oct/Nov also highly unlikely as nowhere to hold them. Schools will be full with new Yr7 etc, no £ for invigilators available as its all been spent on paying them for this summer despite no exams. Only poss is for current Yr 11/13's to sit them next summer.
Schools need to know what GCSE's and A's likely to look like for next summer and plan back from there to try to build a teachable curriculum, but time is rapidly running out and DfE vague in the extreme. 'Blended learning' i.e. mostly what they're (not) doing now likely for autumn term at least.

Personally I’d be delighted if they cancelled GCSEs for next year, particularly as most GCSE teaching for ds1 finished in about February for May exams. Or just focused on core subjects and ignored shit like RS. A levels would be more tricky.

On a lighter note, one of the teachers is giving a well-being talk at the end of every school day when school starts back. Ds2 thought this was funny as he says his well-being has never been better since lockdown, with no stress or school pressure. He is running out of YouTube to watch though, lol :)
