Thanks everyone , I was very confident of beating 50 mins but to go that far under was just brilliant. I even managed to sprint the last 60-70meters which was up hill too ...

Well done RMO3B - but I'm really surprised you hadn't gone sub 50 before! Next you'll be doing it after a swim and bike

thanks i did 51.58 new years eve 2011- then 2012 i did marathons and got so slow 2013 i was injured jan-april and then it was all triathlons with no 10ks (unless at end of a standard lol) i did the new years eve 10k again end of 2013 but it was mental windy (but i dont think i would have done sub 50 anyway) so its the training this year that has finally done it for me

Great to hear you've done a good 10k off tri training too. There is hope for me yet!

Thanks tri girl, but there's not much chance of that. For one I'm half a stone heavier than my PB weight (not to mention 3 years older), for two, my current 5k pace is hovering around 28 mins, and for 3, I don't actually have any more 10Ks lined up this year
I'm going to try and get some focus on Great North Run training in the next 12 weeks and see if doing half marathon distance encourages some speed back over shorter distances. Then in September I need to take a good hard think about what i want to focus on next year.
