An extract from an article stating little improvement over 35 years.
Well you can, but if you are training 25 mpw and angsting over the concentration of your beetroot juice maybe step back for a moment.

Useful advice, FR, although if the situation was that the person could only handle 25mpw without getting injured ... actually, I'd want to talk about cross training options and whether they were targeting appropriate race distances before fretting about beetroot juice.

Spot on, V'Rap. Cross training is seriously under rated.

Very steady, muddy and windy 20 this morning.
Does the juice out of a jar of pickled beetroot work in the same way I wonder? Best not experiment with that on marathon day morning

I believe drinking pickle juice is also A Thing among athletes. Probably the same athletes who run so that they have an excuse to have cold baths and flagellate their sore bits with sticks.

18 yesterday for me, survived my biggest week of mileage yet, couldn't hit the paces for my interval session though. Not too worried about that though as it was windy and I couldn't see where I was going (who knew that Burgess Park in central-ish London isn't lit after dark?!). Plus I wasn't hitting the paces from the beginning of the session so it was more of a general sluggishness problem than a ran out of steam problem.
Well done on the 20 Pikelet, must be encouraging, I'm looking forward to having some runs in the bag which start with 2.

Thanks auburnette. The windy weather has to be helping to build endurance too!

Pikelet, I use that theory (about the conditions being tougher in breezy conditions) with running one local parkrun over another one. I prefer to run the harder parkrun as (hopefully) the training effect will be greater.

As long as the effort was there, Auburnette then all good, pace or no.
