I ran 45.20 at Bourton (flat) 10k back in Feb, VLM next week, just entered the Berkeley 10k (flat) May 16th, A Monday evening. I am putting to test this quick 10k after marathon training malarkey.

I'm doing the Flitwick 10k this Sunday. Looking to shave a whopping 4 minutes off my PB after 10 or so weeks training for Embra. Am I being unrealistic here?

Actually, I'm juxtaposed with SuperDave. I mean, I'm all for 10ks (with lovely free fun runs for the kids), but I really should be doing another LSR on Sunday - and no, I don't really want to run to it and then run back, either...

you have 6 weeks to Edinburgh, a quick 10k will do you good, so long as you get back to the LSRs after

SD, about 10k improvements from marathon training - I think it depends what type of runner you are. Some people (like me) do better middle/long distance but find it hard to match the short distances compared to their predictions from longer races iygwim.

Also, it is too easy to slow everything down just to cover the distance of a marathon (which is fine if you are doing your first one ever)

Cheers WS and Marchbanks. I've built in some other mileage in the week to prevent it from being too light, then back to 20 miles for Sunday week.

I have been chasing 45 min 10km for a while and getting fed up up with the 46 min and 47 min results. In races I seem to start and finish well but lose concentration in the middle section (about 4-7 km) and lose those time there. Any ideas what training or race techniques I can use to 'fix' the middle section?

I have increased my weekly mileage lately (more through accident than purpose) and not sure whether to focus on a new goal of completing a 1/2M or to keep chasing a 45 min 10km this summer.....or both? Would one help the other?
