He doesn't do crazy miles, I'd say he averages 25-35 miles most weeks of the year, maybe just raising it for a couple weeks (2 and 3 weeks prior to a target race). But he keeps his 5k sharp, races often over shorter distances, keeps his weight down and does a lot of climbing that must help his core strength. Lots of ways to run fast, I need the miles to keep my weight under check and get sub-3. Yes there's a lot of ways, but the easy ones are genetics ![]() |

He's quick over short distances, took a while to break 16 but last year took a big chunk off that by going 15:30 for 5k. He looks really efficient when he runs...I guess the core exercise from the climbing plus some walking/trecking around to get to places to climb just works for him and allows him to run comparatively quick off lowish mileage. He's probably the most naturally talented runner I run with. |

That's still a good conversion TBF! As you said though, the other stuff he does will be decent training. Certainly trekking/ walking is good time on feet. It's interesting that you say he made a breakthrough rather than just being good straight off which is what you see with some good runners sometimes. I remember being a pacer for a new guy to complete one of our MD sessions early season a few years ago. By the summer he was sub 2 for 800! |

I'd like to say hello to any lurking RW refugees, hope you will feel very welcome here. We're a bit quiet right now with the spring season having ended recently, but there is a bunch gearing up for autumn races and then will probably be a few more over the winter.

Thank you. I set up a sub3/3.15 RW thread, as the RW thread was more of a daily updating diary thing. This might annoy some of the old on this thread who see to post less frequently and don't tend to include training detail. I'm happy to use either thread. I was on the RW thread since 2006, and m57 and hanging on to sub3 status. I picked up a bit of lurgy in London taper week, had to reign it in on the day but still managed 3.01. However its taken me a while to get over that (CV19?), and im still not back to where I'd like to be. I have a Dorney Lake and Abingdon place for Oct where I'll hope to go sub 3 again. I run solid mileage, usually 3000m per year. |

My concern also is if 12 or so of us all appear on here overnight and just continue where we left off, the current posters will be a little irritated. We do tend to have several posts a day routinely and it delves into training a lot and race outcomes. |

it also delves into life matters...but hello Fetch sub 3 thread and thanks for the welcome! I am Peter Norris, 59 years old, lives in Cornwall and I am a marathon runner and have done a training run a while back with LMH!. My other claim to fame (disputable) is that until I ran 3.06 in Manchester in April, I was on a run of 24 consecutive sub 3 marathons dating back to 2017. Since Newport also in April, I am back on a run of 1. |

I think it would be very refreshing to have a dose of daily posting going on here but equally there’d be no reason for me to not become an imposter on the new FE RW 3 / 3:15 thread thingy! My claim to fame is that I caught TR at about 20 miles at Abingdon in 2019. I honestly thought he was spent and attempted to give him a bit of a gee-up. He then proceeded to come whistling past me about 2 miles later and then take 2 mins off me in the last 4! |

and OO, that is deeply impressive. I’m sure that you’ve quite a lot of wisdom to pass on to other oldies (of which there are quite a few round here!).

No worries, we are (hopefully) a tolerant enough bunch and the thread could do with a bit of life sometimes. I think we've been thinning out just a little in recent years as age takes its toll and newcomers might not have quite matched departures - perhaps the glory years were just prior to covid which obviously knocked a hole in many peoples' race routines. In theory I'm still running sub 3 but missed this spring (which would have been my first time in the MV55 category) due to illness/injury and perhaps a bit of lethargy. |
