I'm talking about 50 odd years ago swittle and that pan wasn't used in a daily basis. My mum lived actively into her 80s and I'm in my 60s with very healthy cholesterol levels :)

We also had one of those chip pans. Occasionally the fat (Trex or Spry in our household because my mother was one of those enlightened sorts who knew from the adverts on the telly that they were Better For You than lard) would be tipped into a Pyrex bowl so that the burnt bits would rise to the surface and could be scraped off; the remaining fat would be returned to the cleaned pan along with a new block of fat to top it up.

We didn't use it for fritters, though. I only got fritters when I went to the chip shop on the way home from Brownies.

What thread is this? Oh, yes, snow. We've got a smidgin of a smattering of white stuff outside, but it was very windy overnight and my poor daffodils are flat. I now understand why the previous owner of the house only planted dwarf daffodils.

We've had several inches of snow settle here in the last 90 minutes or so. I always thought it didn't snow at the seaside. You learn something every day.

Started snowing in East Devon just after nine, already four inches deep. Those nutters doing the cub might be a bit cold..
