Going back a page, we had a close up look at the snow maker at Glencoe on the supporter's weekend.
It's quite an impressive piece of kit. It's shipping container sized and the machinery inside creates ice chips about the size of a 2p piece. When the chips are spat out and piled up, they attract moisture from the air and grow in the pile. This is then ploughed out where needed and the chips break up to form snow.
On the weekend they had a small loop open for skiing / boarding, with a decent coverage, made pretty much entirely by the machine.
Good luck to them!

We're off to Les Arcs / Paradiski over Christmas week, staying at Bourg St Maurice. Driving down this weekend and home again by Hogmany (first time in twenty years we've been away over Christmas).
Anyone been and have recommendations for BSM? Probably too late now but particularly interested in recommendations for dinner on Christmas Day (there'll be a backup meal in the freezer just in case!)
Thanks in advance.

Just back from a long weekend with an all female group in Morzine. This is our third successful trip as a group, last year got cancelled due to U.K. snow. Had a blast. Managed to get 2 hours in poor light on Thursday afternoon, then had two glorious days in/around Avoriaz with blue skies and perfect pistes, though Friday was incredibly cold. Today snowed all day, visibility was ok in the trees around Pleney/Les Gets, bit the wind got up so finishing after a long lunch at 3 to be able to get our transfer wasn’t a problem
I’ve really found my ski legs this time, felt so relaxed and confident most of the time, and have realised we are now consistently among the fastest skiers on the pistes (we’re all pretty well matched and generally ski as a group of 8). It’s only taken 25 years

Well done Meg, glad you finally managed to get a trip in - maybe you can manage another one this winter as the conditions are so good?

Unlikely AR, due to time and money. And my teens would be very upset if I went again without them!

Shame, at least you got there this time.
It's chucking down and blowing out there this morning.

We just got back from a week in Sestriere. The conditions were quite incredible, given that the last snow they had was over a month ago on Dec 19th!
The lowest runs were all out, but the upper runs were excellent skiing on home-made snow. We skiied across to Sauze d’Oulx a couple of times with our 10-year old making short work of the steep black run which was the only access. We also had a day-trip to Montgenèvre where the snow and superb tree-lined runs were only slightly let down by the ancient lift infrastructure.
Overall it was a fantastic holiday. Loads of miles of fast skiing under beautiful blue skies. I feel very lucky.

I’m off to Bulgaria tomorrow. Borovets wouldn’t have been my first choice but we are in a group of 20 and it was only 8 last year for Austria.
I’ve packed my running shoes too...

In the airport in route to Austria. Sounds like there is snow on the pistes and tarmac for running!
