I'll (hopefully!) manage 6, but £199 doesn't feel too bad given I've not had a private lesson in about 15 years and really have no idea what level of bad habits I've developed. I think I can also lend the dongles to other family members on the trip with me for periods of time so they can get some input too. Definitely an extravagance, but my better half (and my boys) are always pointing out my flaws in skiing so I've clearly got a lot to learn, and at my age if I don't do it soon I'll not be looking forward to too many skiiing holidays in the future!

I quite often have lessons, my most recent was 2019, but you do need a few to make the difference. The last lot were great and I feel my skiing is much less effort now. Though that has the side effect of not keeping me as warm!

When going for a long weekend I just want to ski and not waste time with lessons, so need to organise a longer trip at some point.

Merry Christmas and Happy NewG(rrr)
I don't need technology to tell me I'm skiing badly. I have bruises and tired legs to tell me that! :-) G

One of my problems is that I don't fall enough so not enough bruises! I'm so averse to falling that I end up skiing within myself most of the time and do my best to avoid stuff I find difficult (fundamentally powder, off piste and moguls). I'm happy as larry flying fast down a groomed piste even with high levels of difficulty, but I don't tend to fall on those at all so I don't fear it (even if I suspect a fall could be quite a lot more painful than something slower in powder etc). And then I seem my lads (16-24yo) and they are almost happy to be falling so often that they know it doesn't hurt as much as I fear it would!

I've not been to La Tuille but I would think it's a good resort for a beginner.

Looking forward to next month now, hope to get a bit fitter this winter and so a bit more skiing than I managed last year after my injury.

Just like Meglet, my main memory of La Thuile is the pizza. :)

We’ve been a couple of times, for the day as an “away-day” organised by the holiday company. It was a long time ago now, but I remember it being pleasant if a little unchallenging.

FlyingScotsman is going to Montgenevre for a week with uni mates. He’s the only one of us getting to ski this year. I have some envy.

If anyone finds themselves in Chamonix in January, I’ll be hitting the trails there with a bunch of running mates. Runs are all chatty with tactical coffee stops. No ski gear at all this year.

Having been there in the summer, I'm really intrigued by what Chamonix is like in the winter. Presumably any skiing is well outside of the town, as we didn't see much evidence of skiable stuff low down. The running, OTOH, was adored by my off-road loving tribe. First thing my son did was the vertical km under the cable car!!

Going a snowshoeing holiday in the Dolomites soon. Did one in Finland before & enjoyed it.

Got something to say?

OK I've held off long enough.

If you're heading on a board or the planks, where are you off to?...
