Oh yeah, that's true! I always thought it was just tyres, but I see it's tyres and wheels. But even alloys plus the tyres aren't much more than my 4 tyres cost at the moment! G

I've often wondered where all the wheels and tyres get stored in places like Germany where winter tyres are mandatory. Must be garages full of them!!

In the owners' shed or garage ? That's where I kept mine when I used to have a separate set for previous car. Just compromised with this car and have All Season tyres now.

Saw an artic taking a 40' trailer-load of 'wheeled tyres' to a 'barn' type storage shed close to Brides-les-Bains a couple of days ago. It looks like they have communal facilities in France.

Given how many people seem to want the AA to change a tyre when they puncture, I'd just imagined that everyone went to the German / French equivalent of ATS when they needed all four changing. And with the apartment lifestyle too, storing 4 wheels wouldn't always be feasible I'd have thought? But obvs, yes - your own garage would be first choice if you were happy to swap all four over yourself (a 20 minute job I reckon?).

I had winter tyres on my previous car. The chaomwould come to my home in November and March to swap them over. No extra wheels needed. It was about £60 a time plus the peace of mind that tyre were checked and balanced twice a year. I kept them in my garage.
Of course, this being the first year in 5 I haven’t had winter tyres we’ve had the most snow and ice!

My sister takes the car to the garage to change theirs (Austria) and most people seem to. I can't remember if the wheels live at home or the garage looks after them. I think most people take them in as, like Meg said, they need checking and balancing when fitting.

I think the size would be different for my wheels. I've got 19" alloys and I think the biggest is 17 or 18" winter tyres (no one is really going to want a low profile tyre in winter?!) so need to swap wheels too? Or maybe that's tosh. Def would want a little man to do it. Change a tyre? Might get my nails dirty! G

I've always had a good experience of ski hire in Norway and we'll be renting again this year. If buying I'd definitely favour buying second hand, good deals are available.
It's worth getting good ones. Hard to improve on floppy, intermediate rubbish.
