Yeah, all the safety kit only needed when heading off into back country ( as the americans call it ). Been lots of avalanches this winter though, and also people falling through cornices ( one of whom was ski-touring and who is still missing, obviously dead now ! ), so these risks are there in the Scottish hills, so checking the sais website, etc all vital info before planning a route.
Think you can hire the safety kit from shops like Craigdon if you get into that. Or if you're passing Killin pop in and borrow mine which has been sitting in a rucksack for a few years !

Lol. That's kind Gus, thanks. Yes, full respect for the Scottish hills. A few deaths recently, sadly.

Re. stuff sitting in the loft or garage, that's why in 30 years I've never bought my own ski gear! Must be my second mid life crisis kicking in, that I'm getting stuff now! :-) G

Got my ski stuff our yesterday but my salopettes are missing. I do have another pair which are there, but will neeed a search to find my matching trousers (I moved house in November and current building work means things are upside down).
It will be really annoying if snow in the uk prevents me getting to the airport or delays my flight!

I’m thinking the same Meg. Our flight is from Heathrow on Friday. We’re putting contingency plans in place should we need to travel down earlier.

I am very excited.

It's a flippin mystery. I've found some replacement salopettes that I bought last year, but I'm still flummoxed by where the ones I had before have got to! Need to look out base layers and things. Fortunately I know they're all in with my running gear! :-) G

Lol at UK snow getting in way of snowsports holidays! Fingers crossed for you.

In Scotland, sometimes the roads are closed which is just annoying. But the 4x4s are usually allowed to proceed first, which can be good! :-) G

They actually stop non-4x4 going? Round here plenty of people have 4x4, but they’re no use because the small cars get stuck on the slightest incline and the roads block up anyway

Bought snow chains for £30 a few years ago ahead of a trip to the Alps for a family ski holiday. Only used them once in France, but twice in the UK when I couldn't have got to a MTB carpark without them. Can't see why more people don't get a cheap set, such a small cost compared to the hassle of being stranded!

I'm getting winter tyres next year. My garage do a thing where they'll store your summer tyres/wheels for 6 months and then swap back. I figure at the end of the day the tyres will last twice as long so doesn't actually cost more.

My wife has winter tyres on her otherwise fairly basic Hyundai i30 and it goes great in the snow. My car is rear wheel drive, automatic, with low profile 19" alloys. It's terrible in the snow. I can't get out my drive!

Yeah Meglet. When the snow gates are closed the police or mountain highway guys are the ones to close and open. When they are closed, they can let certain vehicles through at their discretion. :-) G

OK I've held off long enough.

If you're heading on a board or the planks, where are you off to?...
