I've no idea about beginners, but a colleague of mine goes to Norway. It looks amazing.

The main ski tour operators offer "learn to cross-country" in some resorts; it would be worth searching on their websites as the packages include kit hire and tuition.
(It's something I'd like to learn to do, but only if I could afford to do it in addition to downhill, not instead.)

MrsC and I learned to XC ski in Norway (place called Geilo). The next year we joined a group of European adventurers (German, Dane, Norwegian & Brit) on a Winter skills course run by the DNT which included trekking miles across the mountains using tracks and some off-track traversing too, staying in wee huts in the middle of nowhere. It was absolutely brilliant. Norway is amazing for XC.

My brother has booked his first skiing holiday for his family. I’m so excited for them, they’ve never skied before.
They’re going to Stöten in Sweden and from looking at the piste map it looks like there’s a reasonable amount of xc trials for beginners.

I think ski holidays are just the best for active families. It’s the one thing we can do with the kids where we can all keep up. Plus the scenery, plus the food, plus the ... everything.

One of my all time favourite holidays was when we went to Wengen with four teens and a nipper. I was dreading it beforehand, but we had a great time.

Hello peeps. I might have asked this question before but...
I have two sons both at Uni (different ones) and keen skiers. Youngest has spare cash and is going with his Uni to France in just over a week. Eldest has no cash and has decided he can't go on his Uni trip and is feeling miserable about it.
I was wondering if anyone has experience of skiing in Scotland? Aviemore/Cairngorm sort of area. It might be easier getting there for a long weekend or even a midweek break. The webcams for Cairngorm already show quite a lot of snow (so long as that's not just a still they took last winter!) Is it reasonably reliable snow-wise? I.e. does the snow hang about?
My wife used to live in Scotland but didn't enjoy the skiing so much due to the frequency of the rain! Still, I thought it might be a way for him to get a bit of skiing in...

A friend a few years ago gave up going skiing in Europe and fell in love with going to Scotland for all their skiing hols.
