Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

England team sees Steward on the wing and Flying Officer Furbank (DFC, DSO) at full back in Eddie’s latest gambit.

I like Furbank as a player, offers a lot in attack, but still no pace on the wing with the electric Louis Lynagh being left as a travelling reserve I think :-(

Gobsmacked. Full on Eddie, if France are hot they will test us to shreds - and another 5th will surely cost Eddie his job.

It does remind me of the last days of Lancaster, he went from fairly sure footed to more chaotic and further from knowing his first XV the nearer we got to the WC.

If Cheika can get an Australian side in disarray to a WC final in just 6 months I’m sure we can find someone to at least reach a semi and maybe 2nd/3rd in 6N in 18 months.

Starting to think Fields might have it. All this barking 6N selection of some sort of sandbagging and experimentation ahead of the WC.

I'd argue that he needed to have a squad that had demolished everyone that have faced for the prior. 24 months before a WC.

But he's got the job and I'm a gobshite on the internet.

Apparently Furbanks got the job as he has a bigger kick than the french 15. So we'll play someone who has already shown they aren't an international 15 ahead of the new rising star at 15 who's been one of he highlights of the last year. The French are going to pepper him with high balls and run their big guys at him.

And as a reward for his stellar year, we'll play Steward out of position on the wing because of his ability to win the ball in the air. WTF?

And Steward probably feels lucky. Randall, the most exciting England player of the year IMO gets dropped top the bench, replaced by Youngs who has been far worse than Randall every time he's replaced him as a sub.

I'm almost starting to hope we get absolutely stuffed, just in the hope it costs EJ his job.

I’ll do it. Couldn’t possibly fuck it up worse than Eddy.

Eddy: verb: move in a circular way (making the same old mistakes over and over again)

Don’t get me wrong, we’re pissing ourselves laughing up here. :)

Big difference in that game - the attack coach - Scott Wisemantel. England had destroyed Ireland (twice - 6N and warmup game) in 2019, and France. England’s game was about a ferocious defence based on line speed and a fluid, fast paced attack with Tuilagi providing power and May, Watson and Daly offering the pace, married with the tactical kicking of Ford and Farrell. And they got very fast starts in the games they won too.

NZ also badly got their selection wrong on the day with a lock on the flank in Scott Barrett who was outclassed by Curry. Also they couldn’t work out their best centre partnership (and still can’t) which England fans will find familiar :-)

England did lose a 6N game to Wales and this was prime Gatland era matchup - ie a physical tussle in a phone box. England under Jones were and are susceptible to this sort of game plan. I firmly believe had they not lost Sinckler in the early stages of the final, and got selection right at Loose head (Marler) and midfield (Farrell, Tuilagi, Slade) they’d have still been suffocated by the SA tactics.

About This Thread

Maintained by Dai Bank
OK been on walkabout but off we go on 5th Feb with Ireland v Wales.
Hopefully we will all be playing at the correct grounds and with more than a few spectators to cheer, sing, not make too much of an arse of themselves through too much of what makes them lose themselves.

Thread title has been changed so thanks for that whoever updated it.
