Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Rob: That sounds sensible and more chance the weight and new habits will stick.

Go @Big_G :) Conditions in Seville look beautiful. (I approve of the free live coverage but I wish they'd show more than the leaders.)

Big G paced the first half to perfection and speeding up slightly now.
Earliest long run I've done,it went well overall.Ran the first 9 with OH as it was pitch black in the park then we split up when it wa light and more people around.1 thing I've always struggled with is speeding up in a run or race and today was the same,so when we split up I only ran 5 s/m quicker than OH despite HR being very low whereas I am normally 15-20 s/m.
Very weird to have my long run done and showered etc by 10am

Great work Big G.
Well done Ian and to get it done so early.

I went out with it being D day I had to run 8 miles if any hope of newport as 7 weeks today!! I was lucky with the weather the wind was mild and just drizzle for my run the heavy stuff and gales force winds are with us now.Cycle path and last 8 miler was October and only 2@6 milers this year.
I ran 8.36 miles :) I could have run longer as well first half really slow but pace picked up on second half which tied in with me taking an SIS caffeine gel at half way.
Newport is back on the table :)

Keith - don't get blown away on your run, think you'll have stronger winds than us.

Vrap - Valencia do great free coverage of the marathon too, but only the elites, although the finish line coverage is on for a lot longer.

Ian - glad the early start went OK, hard to train too slow when ultra training.

So what are you doing to do with your free day then, DIY, watch football etc?

WP - well done, so good that you had a strong run and have dispelled any doubts you had about Newport.

I actually did a long run,15+ miles which went OK. Light rain started 3 miles from home and the last 2 miles into a very strong wind, but I was expecting that.

38 miles for the week, not too bad as I only ran 4 days instead of my usual 6.

Have checked Big G's progress, metronomic splits

Well done on all the runing all

Shades - Yeah going to go out mid afternoon i think as it's not as bad, warmer temps too and might even stop raining. Albeit unlikley to be wetter than when i finished my Zwifting earlier. Just need to think about what to have for lunch/dinner.

WP-Well done on the 8,but also that you felt you could go on.
Shades-Nice long run, when was the last time you ran that far?
No DIY,can't be injuring myself 😉 we have some house stuff to do so will look at that today.
It didn't end up particularly slow overall, actually came out at exactly Comrades pace but HR was very low.

Keith - warmer here too and that makes easier running even in the wind and rain.

Ian - that's what I would call perfect pacing for your run then.

Had to go back to 2023, Connemara marathon April 2023. I've done about 3 x 13 milers in the last 18 months though., pathetic.

I ran a negative split today (as I did last week) and felt stronger in the 2nd half, HR 70% MHR.

Quite right, no DIY, too dangerous.

Well done Big G, great result.

About This Thread

Maintained by Shades
Back in December 2005 I started a thread on Runner's World offering a marathon training plan on 3 runs a week. I had my own running club at the time (Womens Running Network) and I had successfully trialled the training plan when I took a group of girls to Dublin to run their first marathon.

Over the years the thread has evolved into a chat thread, with a bit of training advice, race reports, for predominantly marathon runners.
