Just picked up a pair of Hoka Mach X and also Hoka Speedgoat 6. My NB trail shoes are really good and I like them a lot but they’re Goretex. Strangely, when it’s raining, water gets in and can’t get out making them very squelchy and also heavy. I think I’ll keep them for when it’s not actually raining, but when I may be running through puddles etc. So I got a pair of Hokas for when it’s wet, possibly using for my January trail marathon.
Been at Dad’s all day. Making progress, but it’s slow. Got a guy coming tomorrow to take away some stuff - chest freezer, tumble drier, an old leather chair, mattress, bed. That was all in the garage, but as it’s gone it means I can actually see what’s in there now! There were about 10 bottles of Bailey’s in the bedroom (along with about 80 bottles of spirits), but it was all undrinkable as it had solidified. Not surprised as the oldest had a BBE of 1999. He didn’t even drink! The spirits are going to various friends as I don’t drink either.
Also had my flu vaccine at my GP surgery. Very busy down there, with I think 4 nurses doing the vaccines on evening consults, with each appointment just 2mins. It was in, jab, out. No messing around, which is what I like.

Big G - busy day.
Where did you buy your shoes from?
I've seen many similar comments re Goretex shoes keeping water in which is uncomfortable.
I'm never wearing my Nimbus shoes again in heavy rain. I wore them Thursday morning and they're nowhere near drying out yet. Just as well I have a few other pairs of shoes to wear. 🤣
Your Dad should have passed those spirits onto you, before you gave up drinking 😉
My neighbour has been really ill for nearly 3 weeks with flu, don't know if there's a paticularly nasty strain doing the rounds.

6+ miles today. Bit chilly but good for running.
Ran past the houses that were flooded by Storm Bert. Didn't see any stuff dumped in their front gardens so hopefully the damage was minimal.

Shades, I got the Mach X direct from Hoka, and the Speedgoats from Pete Bland. The Pete Bland site was saying I had the last pair in my size. I think around this time last year I hadn’t tried Hoka, but I will now have 4 pairs! I still likely the NB I have, but Hoka seems to be my ‘go to’ now. I do have a pair of Nike Pegasus 40 I wear a fair bit but they are not as soft. The grip on the Nikes is good though and I tend to wear than for my local parkrun, where the last stretch is muddy/slippery. On my usual runs, I run up and down a wooden-planked pier and if it’s damp, I don’t feel quite as sure footed in the Hokas, and so haven’t tried them at the wet parkrun. It’s not that they’re bad, just that the Nikes seems a bit better in that regard.
7 miles today. The bay was looking great, the sea very still, the sun glistening off of it. Really nice. Chilly, but enjoyable today.
I don’t want to tempt fate with the foot, but the main thing before New York was basically getting to the start line, and hence I was pretty cautious in the build up, very often holding myself back mileage wise. But foot does seem very manageable at the moment. I’m not going to go crazy, but I also hope to get up past 40 quicker than I did before New York, and ideally get to 50 a bit quicker as well. Obviously if I feel anything worrying then I’ll ease off, and as I say I’m not going to go crazy in any case. I only did 20 last week, but hopefully 35-40 this week, and then I’ll take it from there.

Big G - I find it quite useful to know how much stock Pete Bland hold of each size. Of course it might just be a successful marketing ploy. 😅
I think it takes some getting used to, and trusting, the grip of the shoes with thicker soles. Even my Novablast took some getting used to, initially didn't feel very stable, now they feel great and I trust them.
That's good news about the foot. Perhaps the rocker style of the Hokas are helping.
Apart from your Mach you should get high mileage out of most of their models. I got over 750 miles from my first pair of Cliftons.
I lost 3 runs last week due to the weather. Hoping to nudge just over 40 this week.

5 hilly miles this morning, chilly wind in places but the heavy rain had stopped.
I heard yesterday that my running route that has the causeway wall damaged in Storm Bert, has reopened so I'll be able to use that route. There's talk that part of the cycle path has been washed away and the path closed but I'm not sure which part, I'll have a look on Sunday.
