Purps: pottery is a big part of self care for me. We have a bunch of people on our course who get it for free because it’s part of their mental health pathway or however they term it. In reality you can’t really tell who’s on that programme and who isn’t because it is sooo therapeutic to pummel clay and make stuff so everyone there is doing it for their mental health I remember seeing some of your stuff on your blog and it was great, I hope you keep it up!

@The Scribbler - thanks. I also have the worry of ageing parents and the complications of living miles away, blindness and Alzheimers so I really do need to practice self care if I am to look out for those I love
@Phal - lovely words
This thread has come along at the right time, and I am hoping to break a few bad habits before I return to employment. In the past I have put everyone else's needs before mine and never got around to ticking off anything on my list.
Last night I did a couple of Welsh sessions on DuoLingo - by all accounts I am a dragon

WP you are totally right. It is lovely that you look after the ones you love. As indeed anyone. But you need to look after you too
Been asked to do a few extra hours today. So I'm going in a bit earlier and go to Pizza Hut and have on of their buffets. Go in before they get really busy

Glad you fitted that in, Linds
I'm under pressure to help lead the carol singing at a 'Christmas Cheer' event this evening involving the village shop and Cidery. I would normally love to go but don't think it would sensible to be standing around in the cold when I'm still a bit poorly and very tired. I'm going to be strong and say 'no', and deal appropriately with those who think I'm letting the side down.

The Scribbler
When I had a period of anxiety and depression a few years ago, I basically gave up anything that wasn't self care. I slept, tried to eat well, read, wrote, asked for help, walked and eventually got back to doing yoga and running when I got my energy back. I like to think that maintaining some of those self care elements on a regular basis has meant I've not gone back to feeling like that again.
Take care of yourselves Fetchies and remember I'm here if anyone wants a chat.

((hugs for EP)) takes time, keep at it
Self care at work is challenging myself to be nice and helpful to everyone.
In a messed up way that counts.
