I had the joy of cycling with an official course measurer for last years Stonehaven Half and he took the role of taking the shortest route to heart as we cut corners and smoothed bends on two way country roads - rather risky in a couple of places in my view -. No comings up short that year (probably the opposite in fact). Good practice is to hammer in a tack in the road if you can at start / finish / turns when they are being measured.

yep sounds right - as a course measurer you always measure SPR (shortest possible route) - the GPS is only about 1% accurate - a course measure has to be within 0.1% - so you get 10m tolerance in a 10k. There are a few articile on the UK Course Measurers website about GPS measuring.

oh and always measure against the runner - i.e make sure it's not short!

Sorry, meant to post earlier. The 401 marathon man is doing Cumbernauld tomorrow starting at broadwood gym, aiming to be at the Tryst for about noon, before heading back to broadwood.

Ran on his own yesterday around Falkirk. Bit of a shame. I was working elsewhere but wish I'd made more of an effort to go along.

I waited on him today outside work, couldn't run but was going to cheer. I was out for about 45 mins and then had to come back in. My pal ran with him though, she said that they were delayed by about 25 mins at the start as there were photos getting done and then he was held up at Cumbernauld Primary. He is going in to all the primary schools, I think to coincide with them doing their mile for Sports Relief.

I saw on his blog though that he was quite glad of the solitary run, maybe a nice wee change.

Gotcha, except the map you posted shows how to walk to Di Nisis from the railway station.

Don't we start / finish somewhere near the train station? I seem to remember walking over a wee bridge somewhere?
