The 5k so soon after the marathon is a bit odd.

And why London for the marathon championship instead of Edinburgh? It seems odd to have it in another country when there's a perfectly good fast marathon in this one (I appreciate that EMF has its historic issues but few of them impact the elites).

I suppose the guys challenging for the marathon will not be competitive at 5k, and vice versa. But not so good for anyone who just wants to try them all.
I might try and do the 5k, it's almost 4 weeks after Manchester, so hope to be recovered although won't have done any speedwork. Seem to recall it was quite late in entries opening last year, so can decide quite late

Re London for the marathon, at least one Hawkins will be there chasing an olympic qualifier as well as a few others I would assume

I don't really have a problem with London as a venue in an Olympic qualifying year. If you announce it well before entries have to be submitted of course. Oops.
The 5k is slightly less of a joke on a Friday night than a Wednesday for those of us who can't just pop down to Silverknowes. But only slightly.
So as I avoid the corporate biggie in Glasgow on principle, it'll have to be the 10m and 10k for me.

Makes Scotland a dot on the landscape as far as I see it. Any country having a national championship race outside its own borders (for whatever reason) sees itself as insignificant, let alone how they are viewed by rest of world. Its a sad day as I see it

Disagree completely. If the London Marathon is effectively an Olympic qualifier then it makes sense to have your national championship there. A lot more sense than having it in Edinburgh a month later with none of the country's top runners (some of whom will hopefully have qualified at London) in attendance just so it's within our borders. Now that would make the event insignificant.

Make your "effectively"'olympic.qualifier a marathon within Scotland! Simple. If we can't even attract our own elite athletes the we have a very big problem. Also the national championships is not about a handful of people last I checked. Serious contenders for Rio will have gained qualifying standard long before a couple of months out otherwise they ate not taking Rio seriously.
