I've just knitted 1700 grams of my "best" merino yarn into a blanket which will be USED. It was hard to get my head round the idea of winding the nice yarn up double thickness and rattling through it, but what else was I going to do with it?

I've resolved to prioritise using all my nicest yarn rather than keeping it for something special.

Ooh V'rap. That's a completely newt idea. I've oodles of gorgeous sock yarn but realistically the chances of me knitting more socks is minimal. I like knitted socks, but find them a bit of a faff tbh. So, do I try to sell the stash, or do something else with it?

Hold it double and use it as DK/Aran depending on the thickness of the fingering, WA?

I'm the same. Lots of irresistible sock yarn but I'll never make it all into socks/hats/gloves/thin jumpers. I'll probably sell some eventually but used one of my favourite colourways to make a hat and convertibles while I was in Vancouver and wore them a lot in the winter.

I made a chunky blanket for Marigold using mixed weights but holding it double (sometimes triple).

Never thought of using the sock yarn tho (because I've been saving it for best!)

It's sunk cost now, might as well knit things you'll use with it :)

Or make an art installation out of the pretty skeins.

:-)
I might do the art installation (with a little help from the girls) and then knit it up.

MH - not heard of Juliette has a Gun before. Might order a sample set from them. :-)

Raptor - your blanket pic from a couple of days ago made me gasp. Most splendid. I gave away a lot of wool to a colleague because I just wasn't getting on with knitting. You and WA are speaking a language I do not understand. Mixed weights? Double/triple? Anyway, even if you have a giant stash, someone random recommended this shop the other day - maybe you need some more yarn for best? ;-) blacksheepwools.com

It was probably me on the craftiness thread, quimby :) My blanket tied in accidentally to a knitalong pattern folk on the Black Sheep Wools Facebook group were doing.

I don't think I follow the craftiness thread - I thought I found Black Sheep from Twitter, but all me social media is blurring into one at the mo.
