Plenty of sailing going on at our local loch. I hope to get my own boat, hopefully some time this summer. I believe I have proved that I go down to the water any time I can, sometimes multiple times in a week, with the paddleboard. That was the "proof" to myself. Just need to get my finances and priorities in order! :-) G

MrsC bought herself an old Laser over the winter for her to personalise and campaign in the Club races this year. She was fed up hiring one of the club boats only to find that someone else had messed about with the settings (for want of a better phrase) since she had last used it.

We're also putting the finishing touches to the antique wooden Solo we've been restoring over the winter. Hoping it might be a good boat for me to try out as a racing option.

We're also running a 6-week learn-to-sail course for half a dozen local youngsters in an attempt to grow our membership from grass roots. Our Young Lad (aka FlyingScotsman in these pages) is running it as the DI. Very pleased to see him step up; boy becomes man. Lovely. :)

That's wonderful AC. Presume RYA give club some money to help to encourage new youngsters in (Try Sailing or Youth Sailing Scheme)? What club are you guys again? :-) G

RYA not so much help; we're not affiliated and they have Rules which makes stuff difficult for small clubs. However, we have good local network with clubs in the area (Royal Tay and Stonehaven) and there's loads of help available. For example J did his DI at Royal Tay last year and it cost us buttons due to local arrangements. We're at Forfar Loch.

She's a pretty little cruiser TR. Is that a borrow / swap or a purchase? :-) G

Oh that sounds like a good set up AC - best of luck to Jnr with his instructing. I'm sure he'll be awesome. I was paddleboarding with _andy yesterday while his son is doing his AI course, I think. And his daughter is already qualified. Awesomeness! :-) G

Selling my 17 footer and adding some money to get a 23 footer. Had the old one for 2.5 years as "proof of concept"

It's on the Avon so realistically, up to Stratford for an overnight or down to Tewkesbury for the same.

About This Thread

Arrrr, yo ho ho ho, ahoy there me hearties heart etc.

Pirate speech optional.

Might just be me and Angus Clydesdale, but anyone else into sailing? I'm just getting back to dinghy sailing and loving it. I got canoe during lockdown cos a mate at work cajoled me into it. Then paddleboards because of the good people on the Kayaking and Canoeing thread. But when it's windy, paddling is hard. Sailing is so much better.

So... anyone? :-) G
