OuchOuch
OO - Great stuff, well done, suppose with the handicap you had to run a fast pace throughout. Well done especially on the sprint finish.
Gerard - All good stuff, 50 mpw is a good target. Foir Malaga, aiming for around 2.54-2.56.
DT - That's a good looking sess and good theres no after effects. A good overall week, a mixture of everything. Malaga is ace, they release some early entry's straight after the race for around 40E, which is a bargain. They have a few places left at a chunky looking 150E. I am looking to do a few new marathons for me around that time in 2025, there's a new one in Alicante at the end of November and maybe Lanzarote or Pisa in early/ mid December. Choices choices.

Riggsy - Good news, there's been progress.
Wardi - Well done on the 60 mpw, difficult to fit in at the best of times, especially the last week in November.
TR - Good call, pointless thrashing yourself, get 100% for the challenges ahead.

Tapering, so a proper rest day today. Resting heart rate has dropped back the past 5 days to the 36-39 range after being 42-44 this time last week. So hopefully a good sign.

Oo61 - good racing, your knees must be improving.

Riggsy - the lower is as important (if mot more) than the raise. I do both at the same time.

Ouch - don't find yourself in hospital for an op at anytime they won't let you out with a HR that low. I'm a much higher beater.

Morning weights, evening 7m.

OO61.. good to see you managed a decent race without too much knee trouble. Re Valencia, I too heard it was a bit on the warm side for us fair skinned natives. A girl I know from Yorks ran 2.49 yesterday, 2.46 at London.

Gerard.. that sounds like decent progress, good news indeed. After my sciatica issue I started at 20mpw about 2 months ago and built up gradually.

DT19.. Malaga looks a good plan for you next year. I prefer training for an autumn marathon personally, more daylight so a wider range of training routes.

TR.. hope the run wasn't too painful around your wounds and scrapes.

Riggys.. yes it's a very patient game waiting for an achilles to recover, best of luck with it.

5.2m earlier, a bit breezy & raw today. The next 2 weeks will be much lower mileage due to being on hols but the sun and relative rest won't do me any harm. I fly out on Thursday.

OO.. those used to be my RHR figures when I was in my prime, around 48-52 these days.

Wardi, is it Tenerife? Sounds lovely right now!

Gerard, good work on the session. I much prefer longer reps.

Ouchouch, if I can bag a place for 40 euro, I might buy one and worry about making it happen into next year and not worry if it doesn't.

That's a low RHR!

Hope you're feeling better today, TR?

Bit of s and c mid morning then 7.5m with strides and spin tonight.

I think mine s around 40 or even lower when I'm sleeping. I'm sure you all had the look of surprise when a medic takes your pulse 😆
Sharp target OO. Malaga is lovely, hope the weather holds....

Riggys - it’s a patient game but well worth it.

OO - that’s a great target. I like the sound of those races. I may well opt for one next year.

Wardi - where are you off to? I’m sure you’ve mentioned it but I’ve forgotten but some sun sounds good. Yes, it’s tricky trying to keep a lid on things when coming back but too risky to increase the volume too soon.

DT - good shout on the early Malaga entry, I’m tempted.

0061 - was that sand you raced on compact or soft? Sounds like a difficult race but the handclap makes it interesting.

TR - you’re very disciplined with the s&c stuff you do. I met a chap down at Lakeside a few months ago who was walking his dog and I thought it might be you from seeing your avatar pic years ago but maybe it was your doppleganger. It was around the time of the Muslim protests. I remarked about the strange tents that had suddenly appeared in the park at the end of lakeside. It probably wasn’t you but I did wonder. I go there occasionally for work. It’s a nice spot to run.

10k easy jog around town and a few inclines to take me back out to the south east coast. Colder by about 6c tonight but still near double figures so lovely running weather. Off on another work trip tomorrow to our sister Island for 3 days. Last one of the year thankfully, I’m so done with work travel for the year.

TR, I've been seeing some pictures and reports from Goodwood on the weekend. I don't think it looked a great deal of fun!

My heart rate drops to high 30s when asleep though I don't believe lowest HR is same as RHR. Whenever I go to the Dr and they do blood pressure/HR they ask me if I run before alarm sets in from the figure it gives.

Gerard, Malaga is cheap and easy versus Valencia. I couldn't see anything re an Alicante marathon though. Enjoy the trip. Cold here again today.

stick with it Riggsy, worst thing I see people doing with plantar and achilleas issues is keep trying to come back too soon.

Weather looks rough for sundays race, currently 20mph winds at race time though 2-3 hours later 40-50mph. It isn't a pb type course so not too bothered as those i'll be racing will have some weather. On that front, it's Midland masters champs. Mildly disappointing to learn I am the only entrant in my AG. The plus side is that the race itself has 5 year prize cats so I already know that no one in Midland masters is there challenging and that is a reasonable sized pool. I also know that the 2 v45s that beat me last year are now m50s. So whilst you never know who else might turn up, it gives me a reasonable incentive to go for it.

10m and strides over lunch.

It’s an interesting one regarding PF and I think it is one of those where people can react individually. I think I’m finally at the end of mine (over 2 years I’ve had it) and I was actually told at various points by professionals to keep going with some running. For me, for the periods where I had several weeks off, I feel made it worse. There is a thread on here about PF, and what works for some doesn’t work for others, and vice versa. For me, I am pretty sure that the stretches did next to nothing in terms of helping, although I did keep at them very, very regularly as it was something I felt I could do to try and be proactive. Others find some stretching sorts it very quickly, but that was not my experience.

Best things, for me, was not walking on hard floors at home (downstairs is tiled at my place, and that aggravated it a lot), and I think trying to make sure I ran in shoes that were wide in the toe box helped too. Also, shockwave therapy helped me, and I think was the biggest difference for me. I also had a steroid injection and that didn’t help me, whereas others report it literally vanishes in a couple of days with that. I feel I tried everything, including extensive rest, but there was not an easy answer for me.

Although it is now at the stage where it’s the best it has been for many months, I’m still very worried it could come back as quickly as it came though!

I’m not saying anyone should do or not do what I’ve said above, but just that I think it’s an individual thing.

DT - maratonelchealicante.com Could be the same weekend as Valencia marathon? That wind will make you win those prizes on Sunday. Good luck.

Gerard - Its great being away in the sun and warmth, and sure breaks up the British winter.
TR - Lol.

Reassured we have heart rates in the same range. I was hoping that would be the case. The chap I went to Verona with, is an ex-runner who quit as his heart rate was very low allied to some other heart issues then identified.

Sounds promising DT19.

Cold again here this morning.

About This Thread

Hi

Fetch has said us RW refugees can relocate here. I know there are existing sub3 and 3.15 threads, but the fetch threads seem to be for more infrequent posters. The RW threads are more of a daily diary.

We'll see how it goes.

I'm a M57 hanging on to sub3. I'm unattached harriers so like a place to talk a bit of running and find some inspiration and accountability.
