Jools - it must have been howling up there, it was bad enough on the south coast. That sounds tough Riggsy, top marathon training Wardi - as long as you don't feel rough then keep going and listen to your body DT - i actually entered GSR this year, as its about 20 years since I last did it, but i know have an Abo number on the same day, and a Dorney lake number 2 weeks before.........the two marathons can be sold or moved though. I need to run a decent marathon some time this year. Good to see you made it accross OO61 10m inc 6m progressive this morning, but it made my chest ache a bit, so probably a touch of lurgy over hayfever, so i biked home later and then did my weights session. |

Welcomne aboard OO61! Hilly - of course with Chester. I should've remembered that. Wardi - impressive proportion of sharp end to club size!! Bad luck on the lurgy. Hope it's both short-lived and mild. TR - as some have said there are several club that are an 'in name only' option that will do the job for you. If they're cheap as has been said you'll make your money back on race entries not charging you the unaffiliated fee as well. Jooligan - sounds like a good parkrun turnout. DT - so are you still going to do the session, but just outside of parkrun, or something different? I hope the session went well. Cheers for all the good wishes. All done and home. The custard creams post-procedure were most welcome as the first bit of food I'd had in 27 hours! Biopsies taken so no definitive answers for 4-8 weeks as nothing stood out, other than a polyp right where I had the worst of the pain (though oddly he neither biopsied or removed that when I figured that would be standard practice). |

Hello OO61 welcome to fetch, impressive times you have This evening was 7.5 miles with a couple of miles at what had been my marathon HR when I have run well. Wanted to get the legs going ready for Saturday’s race and also get use to my marathon taper routine in the build up races |

It is unusual for them not to remove a polyp when they find them TT. Good that they didn't find anything sinister.

TT – All the best for the recovery. Good news that there doesn’t appear to be anything too sinister. TR – Nice running and weights yesterday. Felt a bit of hayfever kick in on Monday for probably the first time this year. Exbury gardens sounds good. I can see my wife encouraging me to do one of these races at Alton Towers one of these years for the same admission reasons. Riggsy – sounds like a sensible run to freshen up the legs and definitely good to practice a bit of that taper. The taper really caught me out for Cork. Wardi – hard luck on the cold but somewhat inevitable I would guess. Hopefully you’re feeling a bit better now. A little downtime might be sensible. DT19 – Horse racing getting in the way of parkrun? I find parkrun can really help with perceived effort but if you go flat out then it doesn’t really matter. Half marathon or 10k pace at parkrun feels a relative breeze compared to solo. I have the opposite issue with my wife, she likes the walk down to parkrun and back on a Saturday morning so I often end up doing it when I would otherwise be happy just heading out early and getting the run done. Jooligan – That’s a decent time solo. I wouldn’t have pushed on for that final 400m if I didn’t have a guy chasing me down. Definitely got everything out of me. OO – Hadn’t considered a kit change in the ultra. That sounds like a very good idea. Hope the remaining build up goes well. All sounds very sensible so far. No great shakes here, just getting out the door. 13 miles reduced long run Monday (as I have a 10k race Sunday). Had to run it after 4 hours of driving and some random bits of food so felt a bit sick and low in energy. Still waiting for a longer run to feel good again. I'm giving it a few weeks but if I don’t feel better on these runs I may just give up on Bedford. I’m running 8 min/miles on the longer runs compared to 7 min/miles 6 weeks ago but feeling horrible doing it and as though I couldn’t kick down the pace at all even if I wanted to. I’m hoping next weeks progressive long run helps me turn a corner. 7 miles yesterday felt a bit better. And half way through a 5 mile double today. |

Oh wow. Didn't know about RW forums getting dumped until LS21 kindly sent me a message. Will read back here tonight. Still keeping on at this end. Lots of hilly runs in prep for Yorkshire 3 peaks in two weeks. Ran Cheshire 3 peaks last weekend. All fairly pleasant and a change from the roads. It'll be good to get back into Fetch land having had an account for many years. I sport my buff occasionally too. |

haha - seems strange to see so many familiar RW names over here. I was a dedicated RW forum user for many years but drifted off to other platforms. I have been logging training and racing here since 2008. Anyway, sub 3:15 was a target at one time but is beyond me these days.

Glad you made it across saintjason You were the one person I thought of when I was pondering the MIA casualties. Never heard of Cheshire 3 peaks nor done the more famous Yorkshire version. I did do the Welsh one over 3 days a few years ago: double ascent of Snowdon, day’s cycling then Cader Idris & Pen-y-Fan on the 3rd day. Snowdon I started on the main road beyond Pen-y-Gweryd ascended via the PYG track then down the main path to Llanberis & then back the same way before descending via the Miner’s path. Roasting day & took no food so was bonking by the time I got to the YHA car park at Pen-y-Pass. Fortunately some 3 Peaks support crew sorted me out with a few Moams 😆 Wonder if you had Covid runjoerun ? Would explain the leg destruction & subsequent struggles with pace. Decent week so far with over 22 miles on the clock including a session yesterday 3x100 on/off, 5x800 off 400, 3x100 off 300. Nothing spectacular pace-wise but all faster than best recent 5K. |

Wardi, hope the cold symptoms haven't come to much? If I can make a weekend of it with my wife then Newcastle could be good. I targeted as a v45 qualifying once a year and also completing the 3 distances which this would give me. I had hoped to chase a half vest but no idea yet where the rep race would be and equally the remaining races are Redcar half (further away than Newcastle I think), peterborough (same day as Chicago but otherwise would have been OK from here) and GSR (again too close to Chicago) so i'm pretty much stuck with this as my only option if I want one. OO, good to see you her. TT, i always think when Drs are happy to take 8 weeks over something, you can take comfort from their lack of urgency. Odd they didn't just remove the polyp though. No I have a different session to do. I am not sure 5k flat out is even possible on my own, particularly after 5k at 10kp. Riggsy, sounds like a decent bit of fun that race. Good luck. Tr, talk about covering your options there for October! I find it odd with all the half maras around the country, for the 2nd year running they are using a 10m race. Dr Dan, this is where you've been all this time. Looking on FB and orange site you appear to be on the road to recovery following your bike accident. SJ, good to see you have also made the leap over. rjr, no it's a balloon festival this weekend. The horse racing rarely affects it as they have surprisingly few Saturday meets and they don't usually impinge on parkrun as they are gone by 10.30. I guess that all depends what time your household is up generally, usually dictated by kids. My kids don't stir much before 9am on a weekend now so no natural need to want to be up and out at 8am. Re running easy, it can feel a bit of a trudge at times, however for me this is where plenty of strides come in. 10M early lunch for me but 3 x 30s strides at 5kp scattered throughout and then 5, 10s bursts in last mile. Strides like that are pretty routine in all my easy runs. Perhaps think about just adding those in as they can wake the legs up a bit. Jools, some positive work there! 10M yesterday with 4 x 1m undulating off 2 min float then 10m lunchtime today at 7.45mm. |

Good to see you here DT. I've not been much of a forum user for an age but do really like the race/training logging here. I hope you RW guys have time to rescue all those epic race reports etc. The blogging option here is good for that. Definitely getting there on the crash recovery - should get discharged next month and then it's about getting some upper body strength back after 8+ months of wasting away. Aerobic fitness is coming back. Need to lose 10 kg though. :-/ |
