Jesus, only a few days in and I've already got lots to catch up on! rjr - good fartlek session the other day. The floats will start to get to where they should be after a few goes at these sessions, but as DT said, as long as they're in the ballpark you'll be fine. And good run out at Woolacombe. I've got a mate who has that as his local parkrun and it sounds pretty brutal tbf. TR - I've got no idea what weight I am at the moment but if I keep at the weights I expect I'll be carrying some extra like you too. Your mention of thread performances set me off down a rabbit hole - the 4 of us who went sub-2:30 have got a very small blanket across our bests - the 4 of us have best times of 2:27:44, 2:27:46, 2:27:48, and 2:27:55!!! Good luck for Sunday. I'd not heard of Exbury Gardens until now - we were contemplating a few days, or at the very least a day out, in the NF, so I'll add that to the list of places to see. Wardi - you've got a decent pointy end for what I presume is a relatively small club(?). Good volume again! LS - good to see you on here too. Sounds like some useful tools on the site. I may give the training calendar a go. DT - good progression at parkrun. riggsy - nice on the 20. Good to see Hilly and LMH say hi, and hello to everybody else I don't know! Not a lot to report here. Had some knee/shin/ankle issues (same as a few weeks back), and was in a bit of a funk/CNBA which worked out ok as it meant I found it easier to be sensible and take some time off. A 4m Friday, and 8m Saturday (both very easy) felt bloody horrible. On the plus side I had a call from the gastro specialist who as she went through my case with me became more and more annoyed that I hadn't already been seen, so I've now been jumped right up the queue and am in for an exploratory procedure tomorrow. Throw in that, generally feeling a bit meh (Father's Day is not my favourite time of the year), and Jr is just getting over his injury issues, I think we're going to take it nice and easy around the half we're doing in my Dad's memory this weekend. Jr is already planning on when he is kicking from to beat me! |

Joe - Well done on the 1st for PR. I know that area a bit, that's a toughie. TT - Not a great few days. What half is it? Bloody kids aye. Hilly - I think Iran my first marathon - Cardiff 2005 - when you and Blisters both broke 3.15 for the first time. Great its still an achievable target for you. Riggsy - Nice LR - our meat and drink. Wardi - Great weekly mileage. Consistency is....as we know it. 12m @ 8 mm, which hopefully is the race-pace for next Saturdays ultra. Have only run point to point races, so a 6 hour continuous run will be new. Think I will run in 2 parts. Part 1 to marathon distance (9 laps and hopefully around 3.30-3.45). Stop: Rest, change kit, eat/ drink and then off for part 2 which hopefully will be 3/4 more laps to give 36m+. |

TR, decent way to get a cheap day out. We are visiting family in Salisbury Saturday and Sunday and plan a trip to New Forest Sunday. Weather forecast currently looks reasonable. Riggsy, good work on the 20, I tend to maintain myself at no less than 15m. Means with 2 progression weeks I can be at 20 quickly. RJR, nice parkrunning. I've read about that course and how tough it is. TT, that's good news re the gastro appointment. Hope the procedure goes well. How old is your lad? Is he an experienced runner? Wardi, 5 x 1k laps must be a nightmare, unless they are very wide paths and/or not many turn up? Some good consistent work last week. 15M easy yesterday mid morning, felt pretty comfortable at 7.55mm. I have managed to extract and upload here now my entire garmin history so will get some decent stat analysis. There's a great table with months of the year along the top column and the years running down the side and it shows your mileage for each month of each year. I often find myself on garmin scrolling back and forth comparing mileage now to say June 2022 etc so to have it immediately in view is helpful. This is week 1 of 10k training. Compromised a little as no running sunday as away. Saturday however is making me feel a bit sick. It involves a warm up then 5k at 10k pace around 8.25am then 20 mins recovery followed by a flat out parkrun. I am not sure I can do that at that time of day! Off out shortly for an easy 6 whilst the sun is out as showers forecast after lunchtime. |

Little Miss Happy
Glad to hear you have an early appointment TT - hope they find something easily fixable. I now take three different meds to control my gastric symptoms and they aren't totally infallible.

TippTop Hope the procedure goes well! OuchOuch It was 2004 and my first time going sub 3.15. 😁 I'm not in shape yet, but I still maintain with an uninterrupted training block I have a chance... What ultra are you doing? 16 miles yesterday after a local parkrun on Saturday. 50 miles for the week. Hope to build on this over the summer.. |

TT - hopefully you'll be on the up soon. OO - if i stopped after the marathon distance I wouldn't get moving again! DT - you'll be in the north of the forest then, I'll be by the Solent. No idea on weather, as long as its dry in order to stay there afterwards. 5 and 5 today, felt a bit ropey today so didn't push it. Hope fully nothing too lurgyful. |

Cheers all. The nil by mouth bit for over 24 hours sucks (and I'm only about 4 hours into it!). OO - Waterford back in Ireland. Sounds like a good plan for your ultra. Good luck for it! DT - he's 18. Started taking it a bit more seriously a little over a year ago when footie season finished and he decided running was what he wanted to do. He has potential. 3km down to 9:44 recently - would've been quicker but early days post-injury - and an unofficial 10km pb of 34:5x on track pre-injury (had his clubmates rotate pace him as part of his PE A-level practical). I used to like to double up with parkrun, but it would usually be the other way around and do the quick one first and then some MP-ish whilst tired. Good luck with it! LMH - I'm hoping they find something that's both easily fixable and explains the problems I've had trying to run recently. Sorry to read your meds are not 100%; I can empathise as I had problems with everything they prescribed me for fibromyalgia. Hilly - have you got an autumn marathon lined up? TR - fingers crossed there's no lurgy heading your way! 8m jog earlier. Felt rotten - achy and heavy legs, but at least I'm moving. |

TR - hope no lurgy! I was feeling out of sorts last week. Thankfully nothing became of it! 🙂 TT - I've qualified.for England Masters in my age category. The representative marathon is Chester so I'll be doing that one. 🙂 Hope the legs feel better soon! 5 miles easy for me this afternoon and good to see some sunshine! |

Hilly.. I think we improved almost in parallel back in the early 2000's. My first sub 3.15 was 2002, I did 10 in row back then. Chasing the Nell McAndrew train was a good sport! Well done on the 16m yesterday. TT.. that sounds like a frustrating weekend, good news on the appointment though. My club has approx 160 members. 4 of them are very fast, there are another 20 or so who can run 33-37 minutes for 10k so a lot of strength in depth. We are not the biggest club in our summer 10k league but we do tend to win the team prize. DT19.. good work on the 15 miler. Re. your Saturday plans, a tough session and I know what you mean about the early start. In the lead up to London one of my club lads ran 10m early, then ran the local 10m race in 54 minutes then stuck another 5m on after that! Re. The 5 x 1k laps, the cycle loop is quite broad (approx 20 ft) so copes quite well. Mind you they got over 500 runners on Saturday with the main York event off so I guess they had a challenging day and lots of lapping going on! TR.. decent double if you were feeling off colour. Mrs Wardi has just returned from a walking holiday with a cold, doing my best to avoid it! OO.. good pacing workout for the weekend, cotton wool time now I guess. Like DT19 I got out this morning to avoid the lunchtime rain. Legs tired so an easy 5m done. Nice this afternoon though. |

TT - sounds similar. Hilly - well done on the rep qualification. DT chases those places too. I've considered it, but I'd have to join a club (or Southern vets) and the rep races are miles away. Wardi - I'm still not back to 100% after the lurgy that I got in London taper week. Tedious stuff. |
