Honestly, they just had a referee explain it! I assume you missed the same referee (JP Doyle) saying BEFORE Curry’s yellow card was upgraded that there was mitigation, but then when they came back to him at half-time (and thus after the bunker TMO had upgraded the card) there was no mention of the same mitigation and instead he agreed with the decision. Just like the “expert” (= retired) referees who are employed to comment on VAR decisions in football for TV, they ALWAYS agree with the match officials decision. On reflection, I am fine with the Red Card for Curry IF the Argentinian is ALSO red carded. JP Doyle’s opinion on this “he was in control”… now if somebody can explain to me how you can be “in control” whilst in mid-air AND facing away from the player, that would be great, thanks. |

Nelly - fair enough but my main gripe is that when I posted they had spent most of the break discussing whether it was a red card. CW & LD are *always* going to say it wasn't. You needed a neutral or Argentinian to discuss how the game went, what the other team needed to do in the 2nd half. In the end we did get a minute or so before the kickoff after the ad break but I wanted more of this type of analysis. Anyhow as England managed a miraculous victory hopefully they won't spend days discussing the red card now. |

Do teams have a 'Plan B' if one or more players are sent off, say, in the first 15 min. of a game? I saw v few chickens without heads in dark blue last night...

Dawson and Ashton (together with the 5-live commentator who’s name I didn’t catch) were saying that Ford was a different player without the influence Farrell and Youngs and that he had the freedom to make decisions. Will be very interesting to see where/if Farrell slots back in when his ban is up
