That was Lake Braies on the Alta Via route in the Dolomites in July, 2018. The area is Fanes-Senes-Braies naturpark.

It's one of mine today. We had a great holiday in the Brecons last August - a part of the UK I've never been before - lovely!

In fact, the day of that walk was GCSE results day. My son was awaiting his results, but we were staying in a cottage with no wifi or phone signal. His results came through on his phone when we were half way up Pen Y Fan.

How does the route picture of the day get selected - Is it from pictures added on the previous day? And then randomly (or Fetch chooses) selected?

Snail - I think Fetch reviews all new routes submitted (on a regular basis) and adds any that pass his rigorous approval process to the queue.
(there was a filler a few months back where fetch found a bunch of routes not checked, so some old ones got added in, but now I think it's back to a regular check)
I'm not sure what the queue is like now. It's often 2-3 months worth.

It would be interesting to know how longer the queue is! I started submitting new routes when the badges became available but none have made it through the queue yet (or didn’t pass the 'rigeous approval process' ;-) ). I hoping to get a few more soon :-)

There are about 40-50 in the queue.

I tend to reject:

1) blurred / badly cropped
2) those with recognisable people
3) non-level horizons
4) pics with no obvious “there’s the route” feel.

cw - send fetch a few 'used' pictures of JMW Turner, or Alan Turing, in a brown envelope, along with your name ... ;-)

I am sure that will 'smooth' the process
