Ah yes, I didn't notice that addition and they've definitely put in another km or so there. Yes it is tarmac footpath along the Embankment which continues at the back of the school along the flood defence wall. It then swings round to follow the tram track which again runs along a tarmac path for one km to Wilford Lane. There are a couple of motorbike deterring metal barriers on that section so hopefully they take them down or you'll have to do a few quick slaloms at marathon pace.

Some feedback on the HM route which some friends did last weekend as a recce and apparently the route changes have added a few more hills. Mostly in The Park section which has a few more twists in compared to last year and also at Wollaton which goes up closer to the house rather than round the bottom.

Nothing too drastic though so I don’t think it should add that much time. Don’t know anyone who has done the second half of the full course but pretty sure that is almost totally flat.

Thanks for the feedback Uyuni.

I've not plotted the finalised route, but as per P2 of this thread here http://www.fetcheveryone.com/routes-view.php?id=1759456 is the "original" version of the short marathon route prior to course measurement. I think the first half is as measured and therefore shows the hills you mention. And although the second half is a little short I'm fairly confident there's no big hills in the added sections(?). If I get chance in the next few days I'll plot the measured full marathon route.

I'm kinda looking forward to this run now...as I said before, I'm pacing around with Mrs SOD so will mostly be enjoying myself and feeling happy (well as happy as you can be when you're spending 5 hours on your feet). This weekend will see me run a 35k training run, followed by the 42.2 next week then into a hard taper for the York Marathon.

The new routes have been uploaded here: robinhoodhalfmarathon.co.uk

They seem to have added in a bit of a wiggle around the park estate, and a small extension to the route at Holme Pierrepont to bring the distance up to snuff.

There's also a handy elevation profile graph at the bottom - no sneaky extra hills :) After about mile 6 there's nothing to worry about. A small bump at around 14 miles, although I'm sure at that point it'll feel like Everest..

I've also plotted the new route on here: http://www.fetcheveryone.com/route-1766508

It's coming up a tiny bit long, but that's probably down to my mapping skills.

Nelly they've added another short wiggle in the Park section at 2 miles - it's difficult to plot it up accurately due to the 2 out and back sections along Derby Road and Abbey Street as it depends on where they put the turn around points. Maybe it's a bit slower than last year with a bit more hill and a few more twists but hopefully I'm a bit faster now so that shouldn't make much difference.

Glad that you are looking forward to it SOD, should be good training for Yorkshire, a long time running but at a lower intensity should mean that you recover OK

Good plotting WM and how's the training going - nice build up of miles over the summer if your profile is anything to go by

Aye, it's not gone too badly. A wobble here & there, but nothing drastic. Just waiting for it now. I seem to waver between really looking forward to and utterly dreading it..

That sounds very familiar thinking back to my first marathon - and indeed my third in 6 weeks or so :-)

If there is ever a course to go out nice and steady for the first 6 miles then this is it. As most people are only doing the half they will all be going out quicker so don't get sucked into anything daft. Knowing the course like you do will be a real help though, especially the Colwick, HP, river sections where they'll be far fewer runners/supporters.

You'll do grand though I'm sure :-)
