The lake is a funny one Andy, my running club is based at the water sports centre so we run round it "a lot". On a still summer evening or crisp winter morning it can be gorgeous its just that 90% of the time there is a horrific headwind going one was or the other - I wouldn't want to risk it at mile 20 of a marathon
Hope you enjoy being back

It's fascinating, is Nottingham. I've never run the same route twice. I've missed the last two (running Berlin and Warsaw instead, so I'm sure it's excusable), but I'm back this year and interested to see this year's route. I haven't looked at the map yet, do we go through the cigarette factory?

No DG that section got binned as people said it was "boring" (they had a point to be fair). It does seem to change a lot - last year the second half went through the city which was popular with runners (apart from the hills) but caused chaos on the roads, likewise the University Park section with access problems to the QMC

Loved the Uni bit last year, but the city slog wasn't popular with this runner, even with the support!

I am REALLY excited about running this....It's my first time running Nottingham so it's always good to see a new course / city. =D

I don't think this has been discussed before... I see on Fbk that it's water pouches on Sunday (rather than cups or bottles). I've quite liked them when I used them previously, and IMO they're less dangerous than bottles if you happen to stand on a dropped pouch/bottle.

Ahh Nelly you beat me to it, I was just coming here to say the same thing!
I've heard mixed reviews about the pouches - some seem to like them, others hate them with a passion. I like the of them, but I've not yet tried them myself, so I'm keen to see how they work.

If the pouches are already opened, that should be fine. I had real problems in a race earlier in the year when they (a different brand I should say) were handed out unopened and you had to use teeth to open them. My old teeth found this difficult and I ended up spilling an awful lot of the contents down my front! Still, kept me cool on a very hot run.

Question - for the locals/regulars if I may - parking?
I've looked at the maps and the booklet they've sent us and concluded that, all other things being equal, the Park&Ride car park is probably going to be the easiest to get into and out of (we'll be coming up from the Loughborough direction and heading back to J24) but it's the best part of half an hour away on foot. Are there likely to be shuttle buses running between there and the race venue? - the booklet suggests there may be but the website says nothing. Alternatively, how early will we need to be to get into the County Hall or football ground car parks?
Advice will be appreciated - thanks in advance

Andy the Park&Ride is 1.5 miles from the start so maybe not 30 mins on the way there (possibly on the way back!) No idea on shuttle buses sorry. The other car parks are on the race route which might mean that you need to get there very early or they may take a while to leave.
I'll be driving and parking on the residential streets in West Bridgford (say around NG2 7ND) which don't have restrictions and you can get to the start across the Suspension Bridge. Wilford (say near NG11 7AE) is another option across the tram bridge but that is not that much closer than the Park and Ride. Either way to get to Junction 24 afterwards I would head south along the Loughborough Road to avoid the ring road which was in chaos last year
