Right all, the time is almost nigh. Hope you are all fit and raring to go (or in WM’s case recovering nicely from a cold). Looks like it could be a bit blustery which is not ideal but as the course is quite twisty and mostly reasonably sheltered it hopefully will not be too bad. The section along the river might not be fun though, but be grateful they are not sending you round the HP lake at 20 miles which would have been a nightmare
I should be in the baggage tent with my daughter for when the marathoners get in and it is normally quiet by then so please say hello (ask for Will). Nelly’s mug has been plastered across the homepage for a month so I know what he looks like, likewise SOD from his profile pic (Pock runners top?), but no idea on WM (nwr top?) or anyone else.
Have a great race everyone

getting excited now...Mrs SOD has been battling a viral throat infection however, all being well she should be fine for Sunday. "H" (that's Mrs SOD) is going for 4h:45m run/walk marathon and I am pacing with her. My duties are to pace with her, carry whatever she wants / needs me to, shelter her from any breeze, be quite, be encouraging when needed, be shouted at when needed and be as supportive as I can.
Should be a great day....We're both wearing our club vests (Pocklington Runners) so if you see us feel free to shout encouragement, say hello or whatever else pops into your head.
Good luck to all running, now is the time to take a look back at your training and pick out one or two quality moments from each week and focus on the positives. You should be carb loading now...that is to say, each meal should have some quality carbs and your reduced training volume will mean you'll store more carbs. Hydration should start on Thursday...carry a bottle of water around with you for frequent sips. There's no point in trying to cram in any extra workouts now...it will only make you more fatigued on race day if you do.

Kind of looking forward to this. Hull on Sunday was a significant improvement on Tallinn the weekend before, and I'm hoping that I recover well this week to at least be on with a chance of running a decent first half. Current policy is to run at a comfortable speed for as far as I can and then busk the rest, although I have a feeling that that could get lonely in Nottingham. The crowds'll get me round the first half in good shape though.
If I can get near to 4:30 I'll be over the moon.

Wednesday Mouse
This cold seems to be buggering off - hooray!
Still a mix of looking forward to/dreading the whole thing but there's no backing out now, and I *think* I'm leaning toward "looking forward to" more than "dreading".
Uyani - yes I'll be in an NWR top, although there'll be a fair few of us so I won't be that distinctive! I'll post a picture up when I get home, and if all else fails I'll have Wednesday Mouse scrawled somewhere on my top and if my Fetch buff arrives in time I'll be wearing that too

Good to see some pre-race excitement and general "up for it-ness"
Best of luck SOD that is a different kind of pressure, hope H enjoys it. Yes the second half will be a bit lonely DG compared to the first but it is only the Daleside Road section to and from Colwick that will be properly grim, the rest should be reasonably scenic. Just prepare for 90% of the runners turning off the route at 13 miles and finishing the half

Hello all! Bit late to this thread-party, but I too will be there on Sunday. Ran it last year, so will be intrigued to see how the course differs this year. I'm a slow plodder, and will be way behind at the back. As always, my goals will be to finish the race, walk away uninjured and if at all possible, not come last.
Best of luck, everyone!

Nice one jabberknit. The first half is similar to last year but twistier, the second half loads flatter but a bit windswept. Overall probably a win

As long as that long, long drag up through the city centre at about 20 miles is gone, Uyuni, I can happily cope with twisty hills and windy flats!

Yep you're safe from the city centre which the route completely avoids this year due to the traffic problems it caused. That section is replaced by a loop out to Holme Pierrepont and then back along the river to Wilford and over Trent Bridge to the finish. There might not be much support on this stretch but it is pancake flat.

Also a bit late to the party but looking forward to coming back to this one. This was my first marathon back in 2005 so it will be interesting to see how it has changed - in general, not just the route.
Have to admit to being a little ambivalent looking at the route map - there seems to be an excess of fiddly bits in the first half but then, from memory, there always were. I suspect I'm also the only person in the world who bemoans the demise of the circuit of Holme Pierrepoint. On the other hand, if I'm thinking about doing 'a time' then I won't be looking at the scenery anyway so it's all a bit academic.
