As thoughts turn to autumn races I thought I would do a thread for the Robin Hood half/full on September 25th as entries are open and they have just released the routes here: robinhoodhalfmarathon.co.uk The half route is broadly similar to last year aiming for scenic rather than super-fast going via the Castle, up through the leafy Park Estate, Jubilee Campus, Wollaton Hall and back to the Embankment. After traffic chaos around the hospital last year it now avoids the QMC (leading to a couple of weird switchbacks) and so misses out University Park which is a shame. Generally quick (ish) once the hills in the first few miles are out of the way. There are more changes to the route of the full which is the same as the half to 13 miles and then goes out to Colwick Park, back to Lady Bay Bridge and then to Holme Pierrepont. No lap of the rowing lake this year (hurrah) but back along the river towards Wilford before doubling back across Trent Bridge to the finish. This takes out all of the city centre section which also caused traffic dramas last year and as a result all of the hills. Therefore the second half of the full course is now pancake flat – a little dull perhaps but definitely flat. These are pretty popular events, especially the half which the vast majority of runners do so the second half of the full can be a bit lonely by all accounts. Not cheap, currently £31.75/£36.75 for the half and £40/£45 for the full, so a decent club discount (you have a pay extra for a t-shirt), and normally well organised. I’m local and will be doing the half so any questions fire away. I can’t promise that it will be accurately measured (although I’m sure it will be), but can promise London levels of baggage tent efficiency as my running club will be organising it |

Weirdly, I was just looking for a Robin Hood Marathon thread not 10 minutes ago! I (drunkenly) signed up to run the full thing in January.. and then realised I'd actually have to train for it. Which led me to fetch, so it's not all bad. I volunteered as a race maker last year, so I can definitely vouch for it being well organised. Slightly sad I'll miss out on the funky race maker hoodie this year, but hey.. there's bling to be had. It's a shame the new route cuts out much of the city centre, by all accounts last year the support was pretty good. But it's also understandable, there was a lot of logistics involved with trams, buses etc., and on top of the traffic around QMC it seems sensible to avoid trouble hotspots. If that makes the route a bit flatter, all the better for me |

Best of luck with the training WM. I think you’ll be grateful of the route changes after about 20 miles. From friends that did it last year the hill up to Canning Circus from the Market Square was not pleasant The on course support will be concentrated in the first half so if you have friends coming to watch get them to lurk around Daleside Road or Lady Bay as I’m sure you’ll be needing boost by that point. |

I wanted to do the half this year - I grew up in Wollaton - but can't as we have a family wedding - maybe next year

I seem to have entered this but have yet to commit to running it, last year it was a PB here for me so taking out the hills is making it sound more inviting

I might be tempted. I signed up 2 years ago but ended up DNS as I had a huge health hiccup in the July which severely screwed up my training.

Hope that you make it JC (and SS), a PB on last years course was a bloody good effort, this years route is definitely a good few mins quicker

No lap of the lake?! Wow. It'll just feel wrong to me. I'm in this year, it'll be marathon 97! |

Nice one DeeGee - you'll get a glimpse of the lake at 21 miles, and by that point you will probably be delighted that you don't have to run round the damn thing
