Significant shift in society. 8yr old daughter in tears for an elderly lady she'd never met. Sign of the times. God rest you, dear Queen. Loved by all. RIP

We will never have a long serving dedicated monarch to this country again like the Queen was.

May you rest in peace Your Majesty.

A sad day. Proud to have served queen and country firstly in the RAF and now the NHS.

Long live the king

Being the only monarch most of the country has ever known, it was a huge shock and something you almost didn't think would ever happen.

She was able to talk to and counsel political leaders yet was still able to feel close to everyone.

Rest in peace, your Majesty. You have truly served your country well.

My daughter Elizabeth was very fond of her namesake. We had tears before bedtime.

(I'd only told her that very morning that the two most important people in the country were both called Elizabeth.)

I am devastated, I had a feeling it was coming but it's still been a terrible shock. For 24 years I wore the Royal Crown on my uniform and we all called her The Boss, she was one thing our country could depend on no matter how turbulent things were and we will never see the like again. I raised a glass of Pusser's neaters to her and our new King last night, God bless them both.

I thought Charles' address just now was very good. Glad he's made William and Kate Prince and Princess of Wales straight away. The poor chap looked as devastated as you'd expect after losing his mother so suddenly. By all accounts she was in very good spirits up until the last 48 hours or so.
