Solo hills take a bit of trial and error effort wise, I reckon. I'm lucky in that I have several years worth of sprint hill sessions I can refer back to. Sounds like you are getting the 'feel ' of your chosen hills, DT - next set of reps will be more satisfactory, I bet.

bonners - that's a neat session. Good to have company on it, too! What sort of pace are you looking at? Assume it is pace rather than time as you are a distance runner. What race coming up?

It is a Borders League race, flat and just over five miles. We last did it about two years ago so will be interesting to compare how much slower I am and give me a benchmark to work off and improve.

I actually look more at the time on my track reps as my Garmin gives dodgy traces around the track. So on that session if I was running well, I should be able to run relaxed but hard at about 41-42 seconds per rep.

At the moment due to my back issues I'm more like 44 per rep and also lacking consistency. I still feel that the track sessions are the right road back.

Ta! I get (understand) that re times. Slower than my sprint group would run them... but jog recoveries - and not supposed to be a hard session before a race, just get legs turning over nicely.

Exactly, just letting the legs know they've got a race coming up

In the Summer there is a sprint group training on the same track, always amusing when we're doing a rep and they fly past 😁

My quality today was recovering from a really disappointing long jump and 60m sprint to get a good season's best in the shot put.

I’m claiming my club cross country race - I was slow & didn’t enjoy it but I’m hoping it’ll strengthen my legs for normal people racing that doesn’t involve 6 inches of mud, 45 degree slopes or wading through rivers.

A place to record your quality sessions. Once a week for a kick off, if you can. Doesn't have to be running but for once I'm asking for exercise related stuff.

It has to be a session that you feel ticks all the boxes, something you really commit to, do what you mean to do. No half hearted stuff, but no plod through it either. In the words of my elite sprinter friends, you 'execute'. (Not really my friends it's just what they say on the telly.) Not necessarily hard, a...
