Three protected riders does not mean

I still don't think it is tactically wise to sit on the bus in the morning with the DS saying "OK, the plan for the day is for one of you three to be in red; hope that's clear, off we go".

Jumbo have clearly had plans for every stage and I already laid out what I think the hierarchy is so the argument you're making doesn't make much sense. You seem to be suggesting that if 7 riders aren't working for one then that's a problem when it hasn't been a problem so far. There might be problems at some point but there aren't currently.

Let's ignore Vingegaard ATM and say Evenepoel sets a pace, Roglic and Kuss straight on. Near the end, Kuss drops a few secs but Roglic gains a more on Evenepoel with his trademark kick in the last km. A few stages like that and Evenepoel is effectively snookered and Jumbo are in an even stronger position.

There could be issues of course at some point (I think the biggest would be if Roglic can't cover Evenepoel at all times) but ATM it all looks good.

I think the scenario I'd worry about for Jumbo is if Evenepoel launches an attack and Roglic tries to follow but blows up a little. At that point they might have a choice as to whether to leave Kuss doing his normal thing, riding for Roglic to help him limit losses, or recover and regroup - or give Kuss a clear thumbs up and say "leave Primoz, ride for yourself".

I agree it still looks very good, and Jumbo haven't shown signs of getting caught out by the current state of play. Now, if this was Movistar, they'd definitely get it wrong...

I think that is where Vingegaard potentially comes in as if they think Roglic is just having a moment, then he can do dom duties given the distance he is away now, but I do think Jumbo's strategy relies on Roglic being good enough to cover Evenepoel as he's the one that's closest and would also be the one most likely to gain time on Evenepoel near the end of a stage without being clearly stronger than him overall.

Kuss has to mark Evenepoel if he can at all points and you can't sacrifice him if he's stronger than Roglic with the margin he has.

Remco will need to do better I think than trying to snaffle seconds on Kuss on the mountains. I think he's got an issue, which is Kuss won't be easy to break and only the cumulative fatigue of 3 Tours might cause real issues. Although Soler on the other hand remains a big danger.

And if Remco really did say "I don't believe in Kuss" - well then I hope he gets what maybe coming to him: cyclinguptodate.com

That's not a quote from Evenepoel...

Regardless though, I think Evenepoel took Kuss less seriously before the TT than he does now.

Think that Ineos missed a trick there yesterday. Might have been too steep for Ganna, but it was definitely too steep for Geraint. Still suffering from his many crashes, I think. Might get a chance later.
Remco looked strong again, but so did the other GC contenders. Will be interesting later when the road really starts going up.

And I'm having to watch Eurosport with the sound off. Carlton Kirby is just so terrible as a commentator. Is he watching the same race as everyone else. He is so shit at it, it makes me angry. I can't believe that they actually pay this bloke. I wouldn't pay him in washers.

Then you watch the ToB with Ned Boulting and David Millar, and that's how it can be done.
