Hat trick for Roglic at TA. Another sprint.

Big_G Shame Roglic isn’t going to TdF though. I assume Roglic would rather be targeting the Tour after all beating Pogacar (and Vingegaard) would make him the best GT rider for the year. However from a racing perspective, it would be good to see a fully fit and on form Roglic (don't think he's there yet, but it's looking good) against Evenepoel and it will tell us a lot. The Tour will be a good race head to head if Vingegaard and Pogacar are both on form. Obviously that can change but on paper I think both races are and should provide a good spectacle. Never know who else might get themselves in the mix. Gaudu looks good ATM but TTing will be an issue. |

SPR, yeah I agree with all that. What did you (or anyone else reading) think of the TTT changes in Paris-Nice? I enjoyed it. I’m a fan of TT and TTTs anyway (I know not everyone is) but I enjoyed the changes and the different tactics available. Pogacar must have been happy with his result that day. And on the hilly stages since then he’s been the best rider between himself and Vingegaard, but there’s still plenty of time before TdF yet.

I actually started watching midweek Big G so missed the TTT. What were the changes?

SPR: the main change was times for the team were taken on the first rider rather than the fourth across the line (each rider got the time they crossed the line iirc). It subtly changed tactics, with most teams having their strongest TT riders shepherding a GC rider to the finish, with others doing what they could. Potentially helps teams without as much depth of strong testers, and also possibly stops one team filling the top 10 GC for the first week. TJV still won though |

Thanks MM. May go back and watch it but I liked the teams having to stay together so initial reaction is it's not a great change, but take your point about effect of GC for weak teams with a couple of strong riders.

There was slightly cynical take on the 'escape collective' podcast (project of those who used to work on cyclingtips) that it was due to wanting a TTT to finish in a particular town but the road not really being wide enough to accommodate it - so they made alternative arrangements!

I think it meant that Pogacar didn’t have to wait for his team. He used them all up and finished solo, whereas if he’d had to wait for his team it’s possible he’d have lost more time. Yes, if the team split up, each individual rider got his own time in terms of GC.
