Though to be fair whichever crazy would probably have beaten Cleverly in the members ballot anyway.

Well hopefully it's Badenoch because she's definitely up there with Truss for disaster potential. Never mind she should be in jail according to her own party's legislation for admitting hacking.

With a bit of luck, we'll have an amusing couple of years watching the Tories spiral down the pan. I do remain apprehensive, though.

At least we can look forward to a few weeks of their madness getting publicity and scrutiny.

Truss was prime minister for a little while and caused loads of damage. There's lots of stuff that this thread thinks is nuts that many of the population might shrug at. Also without power, they can still incite hate and therefore have an effect. If the reaction to that is a shrinking vote for Reform and Tories then that's a great result which shows people are turning against that type of politics. Like J2R, I'm not convinced. |

As for Truss, on a similar but the antithesis reason, she failed because she had power. I wonder if she were chosen as an opposition leader, she'd still be there now largely shouting into the void. |

Truss knocked 20% off everybody's pensions, and doubled mortgages. Then lost her seat by a record swing. Somethings you don't get forgiven for. And Badenoch isn't close to being PM - whereas Truss was in the governing party. Starmer (McSweeney) won't call an election til 2028/29. They'll want to save up a load of money for some huge Tory style election bonanza budget before then. Probably involving tax cuts. I mean the most sensible progressive policy would have been to reverse the last NI tax cut, instead of causing public relations disaster after public relations disaster. |

Really, this is the time for the government to do unpleasant stuff, while everyone is distracted by the biggest freak show in town.
