Have to agree with 30p Lee about Starmer causing the riots. Definitely not the years and years of toxic anti-immigration rhetoric by him and his ilk. Definitely not the running down of all the welfare state backstops. Nope, nothing at all to do with fourteen years of Tory misrule and gaslighting.
Blame the bloke who has been in office less than a month and who has already started righting some of those wrongs. Who is trying to make the country more stable, prosperous and better for all. RW idiots don’t like that. Doesn’t fit with their culture war narrative. So it is Starmers fault.

Starmer has of course also gone on about how immigration is out of control. He’s not an entirely innocent party in all of this.

Great news that riots seem to have abated. Hope the underlying racism and simmering hatred will also dissipate but I fear not.
Well done the counter protestors. Apparently one group (Bristol?) sang a song of We Welcome Refugees. Now that's how to protest! G

"The court hears that John O'Malley has a conviction from 2006 for excess alcohol and a conviction from 2023 for assault by beating."
Et voila.

From what I've seen so far, a lot of them seem to have significant-ish criminal records. Though there may be some confirmation bias / reporting bias there too.

"Separately, a man will appear in court over the burglary of a library that was set on fire and looted during riots in Liverpool.
The ground floor of the Spellow Lane Library Hub, which was opened last year to provide support for one of the country's most deprived communities, was severely damaged.
Adam Wharton, 28, from Walton, admitted burglary with intent to steal from the library on 4 August after he was arrested outside in the early hours of Sunday morning wearing a balaclava.
Wharton has 16 previous convictions for 26 offences, including robbery and burglary."
From a library, FFS.
