Am I allowed to say I think it's a bit "odd" that someone has only passed their test at 53? Has she really spent all her years on buses or being driven around by her husband? Or has it been taxis and limos all the way? Whatever, it's not exactly screaming "in touch" to me. *awaits incoming*

I am not known for defending sturgeon, but this 56 yo hasn’t learnt to drive yet. I failed my test age 17 and never got round to trying again

For the record I am not jda Edinburgh based brother either.

42 years living in Preston, Leeds and Manchester, never needed to drive. A car may be convenient but by no means does it mean I spend my life waiting for buses in the rain (I actually never use buses).

There's life outside the car. Although totally see the need for them the more remote you go.

As in all things, except where it interferes with the ability to do the job or demonstrates a clear bias leading to dogma, certain elements of someone's personal life are irrelevant.

Boris Johnson's kids, Nicola Sturgeon's driving ability, Keir Starmer's breakfast choice are simply not important.

So what if sturgeon has just learned to drive. Who cares?

The fact that she was/is involved in embezzlement is far more important.

What exactly is it about a woman succeeding in what is traditionally a man’s environment that makes you not warm to her JB?

But what if SKS eats hash browns with his full English? Don’t tell me that isn’t a revelation which is in the public interest.

I dislike the term "public interest" as it has become an excuse for tittle tattle and gossip.

Unless it has a measured impact on how (and in the sphere of politics, why) someone does their job, private lives simply aren't important.

Now if Keir starmer wants to ban bacon because he instead wants his hash browns, then that becomes important. But until that point, it's gossip.

No worries JDA, I often look in in the hope it may improve as I like political debate. Keep on doing you.

Not worried Joopsy, just disappointed, as I'm sure you would have an interesting perspective to add if you chose to do so.

As for driving, I think people who don't live in cities with decent PT just don't realise how different life can be for those who do. That's not meant particularly as plea for better rural PT, while I'm sure it could be better organised there are huge logistical and economic obstacles that mean it will never be like central London in rural Yorkshire.

Whenever we got a new boss one of the first things they did was to reshuffle the senior team. On what basis I have no idea, but I always felt it was largely because it was one of the few things they could do that would a) make them look like they were doing *something* different and dynamic and b) it was one of the few levers they could easily pull, because wholesale shuffling of the drones who actually did the work would never fly.
We used to get a new American boss regularly and they would fly in and immediately start joking about a massive management re-org. At least I thought they were joking. Turns out they usually weren’t.
