That person from Bristol that famously got upset when there was another opportunity to cast a vote for something "not another one!!"

In other news the Pod Save America team seem to think that the Jan 6th indictments will be happening soon. It appears that the “fake electors” schemes may be the focus of the indictments, in which case there could be dozens of people indicted, including Trump. That all sounds fiendishly complicated. And the Georgia indictments could be getting handed down soon as well.

“ATLANTA — Barriers were erected Thursday outside a Fulton County, Georgia, courthouse in anticipation of possible indictments involving interference in the 2020 presidential election.

Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis plans to charge twice-indicted former President Donald Trump with crimes including witness tampering, the Guardian reported last week.

Willis asked a Georgia Superior Court Chief Judge in May to keep the courthouse free at the start of August, leading to speculation Trump and his surrogates might be charged in connection with attempts to overturn the electoral loss he still refuses to accept.”

I don’t know how the make up of Trump’s psyche would emerge from an assessment by a panel of psychiatrists, but assuming he still has one corner of his brain that is “normal” the next few weeks are gonna give his equilibrium something of a battering. Perhaps deSantis or one of the other goobers is still in with a shout?

I've not seen anything about Trump being assessed by psychiatrists.

The more rap sheets he picks up, the more his poll ratings grow. The GOP are completely under his spell. I don't think De Santis has hope in hell.

He isn’t. I was speculating what they would find if he was. He seems utterly lost in his own world of delusion and entitlement. I’d say it won’t end well, but really, he’s a very rich 77 year old man so every day is a win.

Et voila...

"Former US President Donald Trump has been charged with conspiracy to defraud the US, obstruction of an official proceeding, and conspiracy against the rights of citizens in an effort to overturn 2020 election result."

It should be the end of him but half of the US has taken leave of its senses.

I've read the indictment.

6 fellow conspirators.

It is utterly damning and one for the history books. The Trumpers really need to wake up.

Being reported that Johnson turned down 'I'm celebrity ' clearly they didn't offer him enough.

Give it a couple of years.

Everything that happens seems to make him more popular with his base. Can he become president from a prison cell and then pardon himself? American politics baffles me.

I'd have thought Love Island was more his thing. Not sure viewers would be able to stomach him though.

With the Tories clutching at green policies as a wedge issue to continue their culture war, how do you think Starmer and Labour will respond?

I think he has a great opportunity to finally differentiate Labour from the Tories.

I think the Tories have miscalculated public support for renewables and Green policies. Or they are desperate and clinging to anything that flota from the wreckage. Possibly both of these things are true.

Will Starmer seize this opportunity or shrink into what I think is his natural caution?

Yes, is the answer. Even if convicted, even if given jail time (which he won't be, imho), he can still run for president and win and serve from jail and then pardon himself. It's unprecedented.

I think it shows how our (and I include Britain and any other "old fashioned" democracies) checks and balances are largely based on convention and honour and have limited enforcement ability. If someone wants to brazen it out, has no sense of ethics, they can. And if they have the cult-like ability and personality (disorder?) to be able to whip people into a frenzy and lie and deny facts and demand that the process is wrong and flawed and stacked against them, they can win.

*shudder*
