The Economist believes Brexit is a significant factor in our low growth:

At least in the short run, Brexit has made matters worse. Business investment is lower than when the referendum took place. Since the end of 2020 firms trading with the European Union have faced extra paperwork, customs delays and higher taxes. In the last quarter of 2021 Britain exported 16% less than at the end of 2019. Global goods trade, by contrast, grew by nearly 6%.

And, lest anyone forget, we've still to wait for several additional EU:UK border checks to kick in..

At some point all of the reliable economic reporting mechanisms will be able to point to Brexit as a definitive cost to the UK economy; I guess the key will be when the OBR specifically identifies it.

Brexit isn't a single thing though, lots of effects, some minor, some more major. The brexiters will deny and deny for the rest of their lives, when not busy blaming remainers or saying that it was worth it because blue passports.

"It was a Remainers' Brexit!" according to David Davis. What a tit.

Agreed that it's not one size fits all, but when the OBR publishes stuff like this in March 2022 and it has not a single mention of Brexit in it it doesn't help to establish the narrative of "Brexit bad". There must be some political influence in the content of that, directly or indirectly, for Brexit to be omitted completely.

obr.uk

OTOH, maybe as we get further away from Brexit there'll actually be less reason to talk about it as it stops being a useful comparison - there's little point in saying "but if Brexit hadn't happened" ad infinitum, and bodies such as the OBR will not get drawn into general evaluations of whether re-entering the EU in some form is a good or bad thing unless it becomes govt policy to start evaluating it.

TBF larks the report isn't called'an analysis of why we're fucked' is it?

It's about the out look.

Analysis of why we're fucked will hopefully be a matter for the criminal courts in the near future.

I'm still surprised an outlook report doesn't even mention Brexit (or indeed the outlook for when the additional strictures come into play).

Larkim, the article I linked to specifically calls out that the OBR noted Brexit-related effects on trade.
