THERE IS NO PLAN TO DO THIS THING WITH IMPERIAL MEASURES!

There, I've said it. It's not an actual plan, it'll never go ahead, it's just another bit of red meat for the Mail readers. It annoys liberals (a broad term which includes people who can think for themselves), and is therefore good. It's a culture war sally, nothing more.

Went down the pub last night and had 1704ml of beer 🧐 Doesn’t have the same catch does it :-)

No war but the culture war for some, me I prefer the class war.

It’s actually surprisingly easy to drink beer by the half litre (or other metric measures).

But very disappointing to get served a US pint, especially when not in the US. Japan being a case in point.

Happily on the imperial debate, I'm completely with fozzy on this. I weigh myself in kilos, my height is better in cm, more precise (176cm - who the hell ever heard of five foot nine and a half inches). Happy driving on the continent in Km, and running 10km and 5km as they pass quicker, although a marathon in km is slightly discombobulating. I prefer pints as half litres (less calorific), it's just habit.

And it seems fozzy will win on the confidence vote (or lack of one). I reckon they've got the 54, but they're terrified of gifting Johnson 1 year free of challenges and with no real ringleaders or people to put in Johnson's place.... So nowt will happen, maybe the by-elections will focus minds again. The booing of Johnson from his "home crowd" will not have gone un-noticed, as will Carrie's smile as she walked up the steps. She might not be away with Zac (no idea if true or not), but that body language shows she's not happy with Johnson.

I also reckon Starmer might get fined - the questionnaire doesn't get issued to everyone, so they must feel there is a case to be answered. I think it's a golden opportunity for Labour to get a more popular leader and assume the moral high ground. But then again I do not want an outright Labour majority, FPTP must die and only a coalition/confidence and supply with Lib Dems and Greens would offer this.

Chrisull, I agree with you about the Labour majority. It's actually in their long term interest to have proportional representation forced on them by the Lib Dems, otherwise we'll be back to decades of Tory rule again in next to no time.

People still live in a hybrid world despite 40 years of the metric system trying to make headway. I do all weights and measures stuff in cm and grammes but I still think of my height in feet and inches and weight in stones and pounds. It's eccentric, but this is the United States of Great Britain and people are free to choose how they think. Personally I am okay with it.

Height and weight for me are imperial and I can’t compute the metric equivalents.

Prefer miles but since taking up running can calculate the metric equivalent.

I think there is a decent chance he will win a NC vote - mainly because his party are too useless to act and there isn't an obvious replacement in the wings. That they see him as "the best available" when he is so shit is actually highly amusing, if also deeply tragic - for them and for us. They are still so deluded that they think he is the only man who can deliver Brexit Heaven - as if that even exists.

So be it: Cassandra got it wrong if so, and they will go into the next election with a leader who is reviled on a personal level and with a crashed economy and widespread economic stress in the country to boot. Chances of them winning off the back of all that: close to zero.
