That's a great list, 7 candidates of varying degrees of eye rolling mental right-wingness, (Zorba would be spoilt for choice) to dilute the Tory vote. Really need soft pedalling from lib Dems, i'd also say from the greens but it's Yorkshire. It's a run of between labour and monster raving looney as far as I can tell. |

The Northern Independence Party made a lot of noise about doing well in Hartlepool by-election but eventually lost their deposit, though I think technically the candidate had to stand as an independent due to electoral rules and the party only just being registered. That's a prod to how new, young the party is. It's a very left-wing, socialist party, I think much borne out after Starmer took over as Labour leader. And as for the definition of northern, it's based on the old Anglo-Saxon kingdom of Northumbria, hence takes in Northumberland, but also County Durham, Cumbria, Lancashire, Yorkshire, and maybe further afield. |

Meanwhile, as for left-wing alliances, I see Labour has formed some sort of (unofficial ?) coalition with the Lib Dems and yes the Conservatives, to oust a SNP-Green alliance in Edinburgh council.
