Question: can a party credibly expect to win an election with a leader who is widely mistrusted, and despised as a liar and a cheat?

Everyone knew this last time. Everyone knew this when he was selected as the Conservative leader.

He’s lied his entire life. Work, politics, personal life. Everything. He even hid in a fridge and stole someone’s phone during the last election campaign.

Yes. 2022 or whenever we have an election is not December 2019 but I hold very little hope with great swathes of the voting public.

Boris Johnson said that he takes “full responsibility” for the culture of rulebreaking in Downing Street but insisted that attending leaving drinks was “one of the essential duties of leadership”.

Yeah, and attending the dying moments and funerals of loved ones is "one of the essential duties of being a human being" but people weren't allowed to, you ridiculous, entitled, scarecrow-headed buffoon.

Yes, Paul, 2024 will not be a re-run of 2019. There is hope.

No-one deserves assassination. Johnson needs impeachment, not shooting.

JK *chameleon*
Myself and housemate have two friends, I & J (housemate's friends, rather than mine, I hasten to add). They live in a very, very Labour area (a brick with a red rosette would easily take up a seat). They are not exactly the brightest of folk. They're very anti-immigrant, despite J working at the MRI for years and knowing many immigrant colleagues. They're pro-Brexit, and therefore pro-Johnson.

All of this behaviour is factored in. They enjoy his "comedy stylings", he's not like those other boring politicians talking about boring things. Pretty sure they liked Trump, too. He was on the telly! What a personality!

There are many, many people out there like J & I. I just don't see an end to Tory majority in the near future due to this.

No answers. Just a little despair.

JK - for a few years in the Miliband era, I wondered if we needed a leftwing populist who could play to the galleries. I eventually decided it wasn't worth the candle...

Yes JK, I have been astonished by the number of NHS workers I know or have met (both support services and patient contact staff) who openly support the Tories...

Tories will lose the next election if they stick with Johnson tho. You can't win with 33% of the vote. And the others aren't coming back.
