fozzy, the last batch of results in Arizona seems to show an increase of lead for Biden, rather than any further eating into it. I get the impression he is going to hold on there.

As per Nate Silver/538, don't read anything into what demographics/age groups/income groups etc etc supported Trump in this election just yet - we don't have the data (partly because the exit polls will be out of whack due to the increase in postal voting). Same with judging how good the polls were. There are a *lot* of bad takes floating around at just how bad the polling was. Actually, once all the votes are counted, it's not going to be too bad I suspect. I'd expect Jon Sopel to jump on the poor take bandwagon and suck up to his republican mates. I can't listen to Americast on BBC sounds any more - Sopel is just so deferential to Trump and the Republicans. |

Sopel has had the easiest job in journalism for the last 4 years. Might not be so easy now.

J2R - they came from a very Blue county (Apache) which has a strong Native American population which leans very strongly Democratic according to Garrett Archer (https://twitter.com/Garrett_Archer) Maricopa has the biggest population in the state, so those results (announced at 11pm I think) will make or break it for Trump - if he doesn't hit about ~60% vote share in that dump, I suspect it's all over and the state can be projected. Depends on exactly how many ballots they announce. |

fozzy, thanks. Let's hope that happens. No champagne left in the house, but if Biden takes Arizona I'll probably have a wee dram of Highland Park.

Sopel is often accused of being mocking of the republicans on twitter.

If anyone's been following Trump's latest tantrum on twitter, apparently the "Britain's Best Pollster" referred to by him was apparently Patrick Basham who wrote an opinion piece in the Express. The only minor issues with what he said is that Basham is "a) not a pollster, b) not British, and c) not based in Britain. He's the director of D.C. based right-wing think tank." Those'll be the liberal elite 'facts' your talking about there, fozzy. We don't do them.

What’s the support John Sopel is a Republican sympathiser. I’ve always found him pretty good (My UK news of Choice is C4) but Katya Adler and John Sopel I’ve found pretty straight on the BBC.

It's the way he treats the Republicans that he had on Americast that really annoyed me - not saying he's a sympathiser, but he was overly deferential.
