History is the ultimate fake news. It's invariably hugely biased.

Hull was/is a pleasant surprise! The museums and walks are good, but even the City Centre was quite nice. Amazing what a bit of regeneration cash thrown at it can do (City of Culture a few years back).
Just when it's open again, please!
History is always written by the victors. Even if they didn't actually win.

I’ve been to both the Hull and Liverpool slavery museums. The Liverpool one is next door to Tate Liverpool (but silent on the involvement of Henry Tate’s ancestors in slavery on the sugar plantations). I even wrote a blog on it in 2016.

Oh yes - my history A level, a lot of it was about how you assessed the sources for bias/accuracy etc etc. And of vital importance was taking a wide range of varied sources (hard to do for say Norman or Saxon England where only one or two or sometimes zero sources exist). It's simple critical thinking that we seem to have here, but many people (Tory politicians in particular) seem to lack.
What makes me sick also is the old trope "the BBC should be totally impartial" and "it's all left biased" or "it's all right biased" and it's like yeah that's life get on with it. You should know or be able to work out where a particular commentator is coming from, so factor that in (don't totally disregard) to what they're saying. It is not possible to be totally impartial. This also links very strongly into "white privilege". Because of our privileged standpoint (apologies to non-white members of this thread) it is virtually impossible to accurately see/represent other non-white viewpoints. We can be sympathetic/empathetic/tolerant and understanding, but at the end of the day anything we view is through the prism of our own biased experience. People currently don't seem to be able to get that (see Laurence Fox). It isn't something that makes us evil or should make us self-loathe (another greater alt-right point - "oooh you hate yourselves"), it's a simple fact of life.
It is like if I stood outside in bright sunshine one day only, I would say it's hot, but on the same day if I stood in the shadow and felt the chill wind, I might suddenly say it's cold. Doesn't mean either opinion is 100% wrong, it's just different depending on my standpoint.

I agree Chrisull.
Brought home to me in the Caribbean, when walking through Saint George's in Grenada.
I was the only white person I could see, and it quite forcefully brought it home to me how people of colour must feel sometimes. Even though it was perfectly safe, it was a bit unsettling. Never been in a "minority" before.

If you look on google maps for the Colston statue the pin shows it in the harbour.
