I think staying in the SM and CU would be massively, massively better than no deal, or May's deal. Corbyn has spent 40 years opposing the EU and campaigning to leave, but his party mostly wants to remain. Unlike Johnson, who adopted the leave position as a way to become PM, he actually believes in it. He knows the arithmetic means he won't get the backing to become PM. He's done just enough (by writing a letter to MPs) to stop anyone else from taking on that role, while driving a few wavering Tory MPs back to Johnson. |

This was an interesting read about the spread of Islamophobia through the "west" until it reach the mainstream right. theguardian.com Spoiler, unsurprisingly, Brexit is wrapped up in it. |

I don't read it as a cynical move by Corbyn as a leave supporter to remain, I see it as an attempt to destroy the Lib Dem resurgence by forcing them to put up or shut up. The arithmetic ain't there, but it's not there for anyone currently. Stephen Kinnock's lets sign the deal doesn't have the numbers, the indicative votes showed that. His respect the result is a bit anachronistic. Over 3 years on, he might as well back the 2nd ref. Only some kind of revocation will row back some of the mess (and let Parliament concentrate on UK business). Anything else means we are stuck in the Brexit mire for decades (deal or no deal).

Don't see how it would damage the libdems to say sure they would be prepared to go along with it but don't believe the numbers are there. Which is just about where they have got to, albeit via Swinson's rather silly initial rejection.

All this squabbling amongst remainers is playing right into Johnson's hands. I can't see any kind of agreement or compromise as all the massive egos in play won't allow it.

The only way this is going to work is if Corbyn can be persuaded to put forward someone more acceptable to the moderate Tories in his place, someone like Keir Starmer. If he did, I think we may well get the numbers. But his ego will not allow him to do that, so we're fucked.

J2R - you're being ridiculous, the DUP didn't expect to be able to pick the Tory leader when they propped up the Tories, why should Corbyn step down for a few Lib Dems and rebel Tories? I really don't see why, if you believe in stopping no deal, you can't work with whoever as leader on this one hugely important issue then remove support once done. Disgusting party politics from Lib Dems and rebel Tories, more important to belittle Corbyn than save the nation. |

Bob!
The only way this is going to work is if those that want to stop no deal to oppose the Government, and get behind the Leader of the opposition. Lib Dems supporting the Tories again! |

I'd just like to complain about everyone else apart from me playing politics and not getting behind my proposal which is obviously the only sane way to sort things out
