I guess there's a clue - have just started to re-find my running mojo and managed to slowly run more miles in Sept than in any of the previous 16 months, or so. The reward though is a sore spot on the inner edge of my left heel. Sounds like it may be the awful PF but calves are not tight, ankles flex well in all directions and no particular discomfort early in the morning. Topical ibroprofen has limited effect ... Problem appears to have arisen after a very, very slow jognin support of beginners. Could that really have caused this injury?

A quick question, I have had heel pain for about a year in both heels and have had an xray showing a hel spur on r heel. Started running slowely last month and bought PF insoles which feel strang but have been able to run pain free. I need to buy new shoes and use Brroks adrenaline as I over pronate. Do I still buy shoes for over pronation when I am using the insoles?

jc - I think anything which is a change in running form, shoes, terrain etc. can potentially have an injurious effect (though conversely, or perversely, can also be beneficial for injury prevention and pain relief!) so yes, it is possible. Hope you've got it sorted / under control.
fitzer - sorry can't help with that. I have never used insoles and I have never known whether I pronate or supinate. I run in flat, minimalist shoes, and try and run off road as much as possible, and barefoot occasionally, with the whole aim to be not to need orthotics or special shoe types! Whilst I've had bouts of problems, mostly I'm succeeding (probably jinxed it now!) Hope you get an answer from someone who knows more about insoles with PF. (and that you get it sorted.) Cheers, G

I'm having an injection for my pf that won't heal. I read somewhere on this thread that the injection is pretty painful,(not looking forward to that!) but was wondering how long it will be before I can get back to running, cycling, walking, swimming? All I've been told is to organise transport home from the hospital after the injection. Can anyone who has had the injection give me some pointers, please? Ta

Hi Scran,
I had it, it's painful but not *that* bad. I think it was maybe a couple of weeks or so before running. I didn't have transport home though I remember that much, I just went myself.
A lot of people have success with it, but I will say that other than my choice of degree course, it is the biggest mistake that I personally have ever made. I lost running because of the rupture that happened due to the cortisone weakening my PF, and can't recommend it to anyone.

Thanks, Gymfreak and Rosehip. I was referred for an injection about three months ago, and since then the pf has gotten better. The plantar fascia tissue/band (or whatever you call it) has apparently stretched, and is now very thin, and I'm thinking that an injection might weaken it further? No one (apart from Dr Google and this thread) has explained the pros and cons of injection to me.
Can I ring the hospital and say thanks, but no thanks, and if I do, what will the consultant who referred me say? He probably won't be treating me again if I do that. I'm getting cold feet about this...!

If it's very thin already, I really really wouldn't do it. I know how this much this injury sucks I've had it 5 years but my PF isn't repairable. It takes forever, but PF *Does* go eventually. A ruined PF is a ruined PF

Thanks Gymfreak for sharing your experience, and I'm sorry to hear your pf is beyond repair š I Will ring the hospital and cancel the appointment. Don't want to take the risk of ruining the pf further.

I am very lucky that I can now run a little, I had years off. But it's not fixed and I can't run that far, marathon days are long gone. But I have to be careful and manage it all the time. Can't runmore than 2 days in a row but I'm happy I'm running a bit now.
If you're not 100% comfortable with the idea, I'd leave it. I promise you will get over this eventually!! Lots of people on here with really long term issues are now free as a bird
