I commented on the YT post about why the scores have changed. The man himself replied:- Yeah I basically went back more to the 2022 "model" so that and this time are based on average conditions week to week whereas in 2023 I essentially computed a ranking list of the best times done at each parkrun in the relevant period and worked out an SSS from that. So largely the SSS I show this time will be a higher number and aren't directly comparable. It might also partly explain some shuffling of positions as in theory a course that is faster for periods of the year might have been higher before. Good example being seaside prom courses. On best (calm) days probably as fast as anywhere. On windy days a right struggle. |

@DeeGee I rarely run parkrun flat out these days so maybe it's just a product of being mid pack, but trying to pass people nicely as I'm getting faster throughout the run as they are slowing.

DeeGee wrote: Catching up:[Useful content snipped!] The issue with the Chester out and back is that it is on a stretch of path that is only about 2.3m wide (just measured it using google maps pretty trustworthy measuring tool) and they have 400+ runners. And it's uphill for one direction and downhill for the other, with a hedge on the downhill side (so zero space to nip onto the grass) and a bench on the uphill side (so unless you're careful, no chance to nip onto the verge there either). I suspect they will have to take a look at it at some point; their old course (perhaps the summer course) doesn't have the same issue. |

Skipton has a short section of out and back, in 4 laps, so there's plenty of overtaking in both directions too. It's a decent section of path with (small soft) markers placed along the centre line. Not ideal but tolerable. The narrow twisty section through the trees is probably worse, it's hard to overtake and often slippery with a bit of a step off the edge.

I haven't done it but Wynyard Woodland Park is out and back. That's also narrow and is traily (muddy, gets wet and possibly potholey). The idea of out and back doesn't always seem appealing but parkrun's not a race!

I'd say any in the top 20 are genuinely "fast", any in the bottom 20 are genuinely "extremely slow" are a mixture! I would argue that Somerdale at 20th (my parkrun as ED) is not genuinely fast rather it allows a lot of people to get close to their 'par' score. the fact we cancel a lot in the worst conditions may also help |

Curly45 wrote: There is absolutely no way that Bestwood Village is harder is than Parke. Bestwood is a bit hilly but good surfaces, Parke is hilly with mud. Lyme is hard though not surprising to see that near the bottom, but again Parke has more elevation. Game of 2 halves at Bestwood. Once you're half way the remainder is comfortable but the trial sections on the main climbs can be tricky in the wet and neither are particularly easy. Not done Parke but from some of the picks towards the bottom I'd personally rank it them as. Watergrove Bestwood Lyme Hamsterley Whinlatter Woolocombe Cheadle Hulme seems to be the oddly high on the list for me. |

Cheadle Hulme can be tough in winter when its really muddy but I dont find it as tough as Watergrove and Lyme where you have some pretty vertical hills.
