Giving out at 59:59 because the timing system failed or other reasons is already normal practice, so that seems to be an argument for changing the 'default time' to say 1:59:59, rather than not applying the default to Bushy's results at the weekend? Yes, that's true, but it's a rarity that 59:59 is applied these days (unless it happens more than I realise). And with the numbers involved at most events, there is a decreasingingly small chance that someone with a 1hr+ PB is affected. I was only really thinking about it in relation to Bushy as so many will have attended that the chance of someone getting a 59:59 "PB" would be higher. I wonder how many people do in fact have 59:59 as their PB down to timing issues? (No-one commenting on TW standing down? The wording seems to imply it's with immediate effect by saying he has "left" parkrun) |

Yes, I'm not suggesting there is anything untoward going on - that would have a very different tone applied. I did expect him to stay "forever" to be honest, but that would be a bit naive; perhaps that's because for me he was the personification of parkrun - the Marathon Talk presenter, the person from HQ who attended the inaugural of my home event, the mouthpiece on social media often of their messages etc. Maybe it was always to be timed with "when Bushy reaches 1000". But it does look like he's vacated his job already. |

In my place of work, such departure comms are usually as a result of a management decision or some kind of a ‘mutual consent’. That reads more like the latter, but could of course be his own decision.

I recall the amicable news announcement made by parkrun when Nick left as CEO, who said he was seeking new opportunities - parkrun.com A few months after he actually left it became public that Nick had set up secret contracts with suppliers whilst at parkrun. Nevertheless, he soon then became CEO of a talent company for athletes. It would be surprising if TW didn’t have something already lined up prior to actually leaving, but he definitely seemed like one of the good guys. |

There's something odd overall about Tom leaving. I'd hazard a guess that there's been some tension with the young lad that is CEO at the moment. Who knows though.

The good news is that Bushy results have been published...the bad news if you want to view them is the page times out trying to load! Maybe that will improve when everyone stops trying to look! I was surprised and disappointed that Tom has left, I've never been a fan of Russ, but things move on. Fortunately, for the majority of ordinary runners/walkers parkrun is still the same as always, changes at HQ mostly only affect people who are Event Director and above and most won't know who Tom is. |
