I agree the social element is crucial to parkrun but I'm not sure a lengthy briefing contributes much to that. Having said that, I don't mind it going on a bit (in non-Covid times) provided (1) the RD actually has something to say and (2) people can actually hear. I tailwalk a fair bit so I'm often the furthest away and the briefing definitely seems longer if you can't hear it!

I see that Eden park have had to postpone while masks are mandatory indoors, due to runners not wearing masks while required (from comments it looks like that’s on the way to the exit through the visitor center. A real shame ![]() |

That is a real shame because it will impact on everyone when presumably only some were being selfish. Not criticising as it’s not obvious what else they could have done but must be a scunner, as we say here, for the rest of the parkrun community there.

That's a shame for Eden Project parkrun core team and volunteers.

Wouldn't necessarily expect to need to wear a mask and go indoors to get back to my car after a parkrun though as you don't go inside the visitor center before the parkrun. Could easily be caught out by not realising the route back required going indoors. I get why they have to go through the visitors center, Eden Project wants the opportunity to try and sell parkrunners things, but may well not be intentional lack of mask wearing. |

Fair point Spiedog. Again from comments I gather it’s mentioned in te briefing, but if you don’t have a mask at that point it’s too late. And i imagine eden park get quite a few visitors That said- I would have thought visitors would plan to visit the facilities after parkrun and would think to bring a mask. Plus many runners would have a buff or similar if they wanted to make an effort. Out of interest, I went to their website to see if it’s mentioned there. Doesn’t look like it is. But I did notice this on the course page which I’ve not noticed before- “please make sure you are fit enough to run, walk, jog 5k with us”. Obviously a fair request, but thought it was interesting given some of the discussions we’ve had in the past. |

Oh yes I’m sure it’s always been there, didn’t think it was new, just hadn’t noticed it before- shows how much attention I pay! (Hiya back, hope I can see you during some parkrun tourism soon!) |

Used to be "fit enough to run 5K" up to 2014 at least, but had changed by late 2015 web.archive.org Also that section used to have a prominent (then less prominent) link to the Runners' Medical Resource website, until at least early 2021. |
