Scotland, Wales and NI didn't have any dates in their relaxation of restrictions plans that parkrun could aim for until recently. They have dates penciled in for Wales and Scotland, think the NI date is more certain than any of the others, including England.

To be honest, that's standard practice for must SE England head quartered organisations though. (Just to get my standard jibe-from-a-jock in!) ![]() |

Thats not true Spideog. Scottish CMO told Tom there was no reason for Parkrun not to return and there were no dates announcements around that time that changed the picture,. Decision is based on Parkruns own procedures and the 500 people limit I do think Parkrun should reopen where they can and if that means London is delayed then so be it. Maybe they should get Boris to declare his participation at Bushy and that might get permission |

The Scottish CMO can't have been aware that parkrun events in Scotland were bigger than that limit they had. Has there been a change in the number limits in Scotland now such that parkrun have the 3rd July as a provisional date for restarts? Restrictions in NI changed and junior parkrun returned there 2 days later. Its not that parkrun are not paying attention to the other countries or able to move very quickly when the situation allows |

BK brighter days ahead
... parkrun HQ had clearly not been in contact with Scottish authorities until that tweet a few weeks ago. Bushy also appears on approved list. |

I'm not sure that conflating the lack of correspondence with the Scottish CMO and parkrun with being no contact with the Scottish authorities is correct. I may be guilty of assumption here, but I'm pretty certain HQ were in touch with other appropriate contacts in Scotland (though I will admit I've no specific evidence for this!) I do agree though there seems to be less noise about the Scottish, Welsh and NI reopenings than there is about England. I know volumes indicate England is a bigger deal, but I was always of the understanding that the priority of Scotland and NI in particular was quite high up HQ's radar with the amount that TW talked about both. |

Spiedeog - you said it was dates, not numbers that were the issue. Position on numbers I dont think has changed and that may well be the restriction There was talk of 3rd July from Parkrun but not seen anything on that for ages |

This from Sport Scotland would suggest that under level 1 there would still be a limit of only 100 people, and at level 0 that then goes up to 500. sportscotland.org.uk I think that is different to the numbers in the tweet from the Scottish CMO which TW then responded to, but it still doesn't allow for parkrun to return at the moment, and would only just about allow it in level 0 if the authorities agreed to turn a blind eye to 501 people turning up at a parkrun. |

@Baz The dates for when Scotland etc were planning on reaching different relaxation points were not made initially. I get the impression that they still aren't and people only find out when the next stage is due to happen the week or so before, I'm not getting regional news though so maybe those dates have been known in advance. Separately though the published limits for each level still wouldn't allow for parkrun to return. Its the expemtion in the English rules about no limits for organised sports that let's parkrun be able to plan a return. They just then tried to anticipate when the public would feel OK with the idea and aimed for the beginning of June, although deliberately not linked to a specific date of the relaxation in restrictions. Other than they figured if people were happily going inside pubs by that point then they shouldn't have any problems with people running around outside. |

Rrunner - I am not familiar with typical numbers on the NE side of Manchester, but within approximately the same distance as Chadderton Hall to Heaton Park there are also approved parkruns at Bolton, Oldham and, to a lesser extent, Stamford Park (Ashton). Given the relatively large catchment area of Heaton Park, Chadderton will definitely not be the closest alternative to all of those (previously typical) 1,000 finishers. Looking at Greater Manchester more generally, rather than Manchester City Council specifically, 4 of the 9 events within the M60 have approval to return. Additionally, within 5-10miles of the M60, 13 of 14 events have approval to return. Even if there are "tourists", I'd suggest it is unlikely that all the tourists from a closed parkrun are going to descend en-masse to the same open event. IMO, there seems no reason for the vast majority of events with approval in place to return on 26th June other than HQs insistence that it is all (not actually all!) or nothing. |
