Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Kirkcaldy has a good wide tarmac path, between trees and skirting rolling parkland, dropping 26m over the final 700m, snaking gently then finishing with a 250m straight.

Although this might, in one way, not be the best time of year to enjoy it.

On a search, the very first image which came up happened to be the snaky bit: s0.geograph.org.uk

And Falkirk has a final 500m nearly all on more or less flat, wide tarmac, curving slightly above the loch, just beautiful - but with a final turn and the last 70m over either slightly bumpy grass (summer) or a loose surface (winter).

The finish at Tring is a nice downhill on a wide grass avenue

Kirkcaldy wins with more scenic and snaky but Forest Rec is seriously quick. Photo on a murky day doesn't really do it justice - the finish is by the white building at the bottom of the slope (which is a nice cafe to boot!)

A wide grass avenue would do it for me as well :-)

I know Forest Rec, although I've never done the parkrun, and I expect you would have to pay dearly for any finish like that.

Of the few that I've done Barnsley was a good one. You have three laps and a climb that goes up in three sections followed by one long down.

The finish at Ashton Court is great (all 2.5k of it...) The last few hundred metres is tarmac sweeping round a bend to the finish. And obviously all downhill.

What I don't like are the courses where the finish is a bit of an afterthought. Brockwell springs to mind where you've done 1.5 laps on a fantastic undulating tarmac path around a lovely park, for the last 20m to the funnel to be on grass almost at 90 degrees to the path.

Fragile Do Not Bend
Sometimes you have to have the finish off the path to stop random members of the public going through it. 90 degrees seems a bit of a sharp turn though.
