Who remembers the post office queues on the last Saturday of each month as people queued up to renew their car tax? You don’t get that any more. There aren’t many post offices left anyway, not proper ones.
Don't remember queues, but did once have to run from the campsite to Padstow Post Office to renew mine when I realised it was overdue when packing to drive home.
The old Post Office is now Padstow Brewery Tasting Rooms

No Wapping lies anymore. Despite what the Express tells you, things do change for the better. No need for presses. In other words,
Express —> X.
Better?

Oh, yes. Green log book, beige coloured MoT certificate and a cover note or insurance certificate, most of it handwritten.

Post office queue? What was wrong with a scrap of paper sellotaped on the windscreen with 'tax in the post' written on it?

I seem to recall that the instructions on the back of the tax disc ended with HANDING IT IN ON THE FIRST WILL NOT DO.

One of my summer jobs at uni was cleaning cars at a dealership my mum worked at. Back then new cars came out once per year on the 1st September. Sometimes I would get the job of driving to Huddersfield to queue up to buy multiple tax discs.
(I also used to remember queuing for mine when I hadn’t been organised enough to order it by post - which was pretty frequent!)

I remember queues outside post offices 10 minutes before they opened, never understood why . It’s not as though they would run out of cash paying pensions , but perhaps in the current climate it’s now feasible.

I'm waiting for the return of those good old days, along with measles epidemics and long johns.
